Peaceful Harbor

Posted: March 4, 2013 - 10:00pm

I am a member of Peaceful Harbor. Just for clarification, we at Peaceful Harbor had hoped for the 16 docks to remain for two reasons: First, the members often have visitors come by boat and would have a dock to tie up;second, without the additional dock space the visitor(s) will have to beach their boats.

This causes great harm to the sensitive vegetation on the shoreline. We have spent a great deal of time and money working with Soil and Water Conservation District to develop this buffer zone.

It appears to me and other members of Peaceful Harbor that the county does not fully appreciate the use of an additional dock or two to protect the shoreline. We, as owners, welcome others to stop by and visit.

In the future, “beaching“ the boats will eventually destroy the buffer that we have tried to protect. We don’t have control over who may stop by.

It doesn’t sound reasonable for us to tell all our friends and relatives not to come by and visit.

It has been suggested that we could extend our existing docks to allow room for a visitor to secure their boat. This is impractical due to the fact we are located on a channel and extending the docks would block others for use of the area.

We appreciate the time and effort that Land Services and county officials have spent on maintaining our clean water for the Whitefish area.
