Reluctant responses

Posted: February 26, 2013 - 11:47am

Three weeks ago I emailed Rep. Tom Anzelc and Sen. Tom Saxhaug regarding my concerns regarding the so-called “gun control” bills. Since gun control laws only affect law-abiding citizens — (criminals, as we all know, don’t obey laws to begin with — I wanted to remind both of these elected officials that enacting new anti-gun legislation will do absolutely nothing to lower gun-related crime in Minnesota.

If gun control laws worked, Chicago and New York City would be free of gun crimes. Those cities have some of the most draconian gun laws on the books and yet they still have a huge problem with gun-related crimes.

Since both Rep. Anzelc (DFL) and Senator Saxhaug (DFL) campaigned as being Second Amendment supporters, I was hoping to get a reply stating that

they were going to stand up and fight for their law-abiding constituents and reject these bills if they made their way through the House and Senate.

Sadly, that was not the case.

My response from Rep. Anzelc was: “Thank you for writing and for supporting the Second Amendment to the Constitution.” That was it. It took him five days to craft that response. Doesn’t exactly sound like someone who is ready to go to bat for our gun rights, does it?

Rep. Anzelc, I know where I stand on this issue. I needed to know where you stand on this issue!

At least Rep. Anzelc responded. As of today (Feb. 25) I still haven’t heard back from Sen. Saxhaug.

The bottom line is this: If you are a responsible gun owner and want to continue to enjoy our freedoms you’d better get involved in this fight! Joining a pro-gun organization and supporting the shooting sports in your area are great ways to help. Above all else, stay informed with what’s happening in Congress, both locally and nationally.

Also, if you think that Rep. Anzelc and Sen. Saxhaug are going to stand up and fight for your rights instead of caving in to their party leadership you could be wrong!

Maybe you’ll have better luck than I did when it comes to finding out where these two men are really going to stand if these bills make it to a final vote.

Another Hmmmm

I've often wondered if we didn't have laws to break how could we tell the criminals from the law abiding??? Should we just not have any laws because criminals won't abide by them anyways???

Suicide

By your way of thinking it's okay to create more laws which only punish the law abiding for what the criminals have done. Lock on doors are there mearly to keep the honest people honest. A criminal will get past that lock lickity split.

Yes Musky

And in my world they would get a load of buckshot from a gun that I have not seen on any proposed ban list...And I'll give them the same courtesy I give ducks and geese. It only holds three shells as I always leave the plug in it...

Purposed

I'll give you a little insight into my conservatism. I don't get it mixed up with ideology.
In the Declaration of Independence it was said that life and liberty were given to us by our creator. To me thats the man in the sky..The second ammendment was given to us by a bunch of men in a room, who also believed owning other humans was acceptable, too.
To put it simply when something created by man starts to encoach on something given to us by God, as a christian I believe its my duty to speak out.....

What? Use a shotgun to shoot

What? Use a shotgun to shoot an intruder? That's a little excessive don't you think? And three shots to kill a duck, you must be a horrible shot, no one in the world should be able to own a "an assault shotgun" capable of holding 3 shots if they can't hit the duck with just one.

And buckshot? Again a bit excessive don't you think? Why on God's earth would you need buckshot to kill an intruder? After all, all you really need is a little .22 cal to kill an intruder (oh wait, same caliber as a modern sporting rifle). Better yet, you should only be allowed to use perhaps a bow or perhaps a pellet gun. And if you're not good enough to kill him/her with one shot, well you probably shouldn't even be able to own a gun. Yep....certainly the Government should dictate these parameters.

BTW....you're a little hypicritical saying that you'd use a shotgun to kill an intruder. Then exclaim; ".....when something created by man starts to encoach on something given to us by God, as a christian I believe its my duty to speak out....."

Suicide - Go ahead and be complicit. But, you'll have no right to complain when your rights continue to erode. If you don't believe that's the intent, watch the youtube video. Straight from the mouth of wolves you are choosing to follow. Bahhh, bahhh!!

Grip

So is there really a coherent point to your post or is it just, I don't agree with you I'm a sheep. You couldn't possibly know what kind of a shot I am..Do you need that part to fit your story so it makes sense to you??
I've seen this you're going to lose all these rights fears my whole life. Never seems to happen. The one thing I have seen is the fact that whenever this country goes to far one way it always swings back.
That is the one thing that free elections do..As long as those are never changed America will be just fine...Sometimes it takes a while for enough people to vote the changes but they happen.
I don't follow any creed but my own, especially not some from you tube...thats the big difference between me and you. I don't use others to speak for me, all my words and feelings are my own. And I never make them out of fear..
Oh and I never said I'd shoot to kill the intruder..Did I......

You're correct, you didn't

You're correct, you didn't say you would kill them. You inferred it. Your words:

"....And in my world they would get a load of buckshot from a gun ...........And I'll give them the same courtesy I give ducks and geese..."

Perhaps you will want to re-evaluate your self-ordained "dead eye" supposition, becasue it appears that only you could give someone "a load of buckshot" and not kill them.

Like I said; keep being complicit. By default you will become a sheep. You'll have no other alternative.

Supposition

You try to place me into your supposed world where freedom and liberty are just as you see it and all others will end up sheep by default. That sounds more like grip is playing a video game there fnb. Pretty narrow view of the world.
I guess I just think going through life looking over you shoulder for someone to take away your freedom kinda leaves one living in a small little prison their own mind has built for themselves..One bar at a time. You can enjoy it all you want, not for me...
You can play on the buckshot thing all you want too. The whole point behind that went way over your head too. Think law abiding...Thats where my comments started..

It is, however, a reincarnated "other" user, come to life in a new ID so they can rag and rage and talk heavy stuff like they are truly educated in "da facts O life"

Grip, you are little more than a new id for an old user that we all hated for their childish posts.

Why reply to long resolved issues?

Mr. Chantland needs to spend some time reading (not the BDD though, they still are ranting about resolved issues too) or paying attention to what is really happening at the legislature.

The "assault weapons" and extended mags bills are DEAD. Have been for quite awhile now.

I can only imagine how both legislators responded to being attacked by Mr. Chantland, on an issue they agree on and helped kill!

I'm sure they felt nothing they could say would satisfy the guy, when you go in looking for a fight with people who took the gloves off the other fighter don't expect a favorable response!

There are still some gun issues with regards to background checks alive though--and despite general agreement with them by the pro gun side--they have some problems!

Gun Laws

Reasons NOT to pass laws with more gun restrictions.
1. We have constitutional right to "bear arms". Restrictive gun laws "infringe" on this right.
2. They don't reduce crime, see New York, Chicago, Detroit,
Los Angeles.

Reasons to pass laws with more gun restrictions.
1. It makes it appear that politicians are fixing the problem,
which will help them get re-elected time after time..
2. It is one step closer to repealing the 2nd ammendment,
and the elimination of guns in the hands of private
citizens.

I love SiP's implication that the Second Amendment is...

...unrelated to our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yes, the Constitution was written by men, but so was the Declaration of Independence--for the most part the same men! The difference between the men that founded our country and the people currently ruining our country is that our founders had a deep understanding of history and how nations had risen and fallen in the past and how liberties were won and lost. They didn't include the the Second Amendment on a whim, as should be evident by the fact that it is the SECOND amendment. The right to defend oneself against a tyrannical government is essential to maintaining life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Redefinition of Amendment II ? Guess my copy of Constitution

Must have been edited by the bunker crowd.
My copy says .......

" A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State , the right of the people to keep and bear arms , shall not be infringed " .

Where do you yahoos get off with the
" tyrannical government" addition/edit .

Just because you hear that on the Faux News Network , that does NOT make it true.

So I'm an idiot

Purposed, you talk about this slippery slope where they are going to take your all your guns. What about the other way? The slope that keeps taking more and more lives every year.
We've lost more lives in the last five years than all the years in Vietnam. It takes six months to equal Iraq and Afg. All at the hands of another by a bullet. You say do nothing.
You remind me of the little brother acting and thinking you're all tough, but everybody knows your big brother will beat the crap out of them if they touch you, so you get your way. Nobodies going to invade us because we all have guns.
How much collateral damage will happen before the public demands we do something and gets it. Its that pendulum thing. Then people like you will sit there and say if we had only done something when the problem was small we wouldn't be sitting here today. Think national debt........
And trust me when I say if we keep putting more and more of these guns out there, more and more bad people will get them, and we can scratch burglars, they will all be coming in as armed robbers.

Suicideispainless

Why? My father grew up during the depression. Never had much, a drunk for a father, he became man of the house at 12 years old. Went off to war with 3 of his brothers, lost 1 on Saipan and another was paralyzed from a bullet to the spine on D-Day. They had families. Of course my father took on the responsibilities of 3 families. I remember when I was little how after dinner my mother would sit and pick tiny steel slivers out of his hands every night. Point.....
I never saw him smile my whole life growing up, but he always made sure we had what we needed. Then one time after he retired I went to visit. I heard him laugh when I walked through the door, for the first time ever. He was watching MASH. Do you know what the name of the theme song is to MASH (insert insult here)???
Suicide is Painless........................................
I use it in alot of things along with Hawkeye and others.
To assume you can know everything there is to know about a person that way is more ignorant than anything.

You can look it up but, I

You can look it up but, I think he used to have the last name of Mohamad ( before he ran for this office).

I thought someone would think that the Congressman did a stunning job on Hannity. Ellison is sneaky and devious to say the least. I was not impressed by any of it and remember that Keith Ellison is the elected Congressman, Hannity is doing his job.

If this would have been Michele Bachmann - Hmmm
I remember reading many articles about how foolish (or fill in the blank) Michele looked on TV.
The whole episode accomplished nothing.
