I am writing to express my concern about the sidewalk issue being planned for northeast Brainerd. We were informed by the city staff and some council members about the application for this grant, to construct sidewalks, walking door to door around Garfield School with a petition. Seventy-two signatures of neighbors do not support the application of this grant. Many northeast residents attended meetings and expressed that because these are older neighborhoods now, they cannot keep these sidewalks clean. Trees would be taken on some properties; in others their driveways would be shortened, so the property owner couldn’t park there. Talking with many residents myself we believe that city staff had not given us full disclosure on this project until Jan. 10. The deadline for the application of this grant is Feb. 15.
