Ringer is offensive

Ringer’s offensive

What can be the outcome of such offensive articles as Robert Ringer’s “Who

will tell the people the truth”?  Such negative and inflammatory words can

only help promote anger and divisiveness. Those who favor this extremist

writing will wind up in a corner surrounded by others thinking that Ringer

produces excellent journalism. Others will look for voices of reason in other

newspapers and radio stations.

It is difficult to continue supporting a needed and otherwise excellent

newspaper, with a great photo department, when it has an editorial board that

gives so much space to inflammatory trash.

"Yo Momma had a black baby in a Kenyan socialist mud-hut

and after returning from Mars abduction, has Muslim conversion, adopted secretly by Malcolm X and gonna take away my guns and rape white girls." And that's just a warm-up. Name-calling and conspiracy theories are diversionary tactics meant to distract us from the serious issues demanding attention and dialogue. They are a juvenile smokescreen, hiding the fact that there might not be any "there" there in the writer's arguments. When you lead with "yo Momma", expect that the "dialogue" will go badly, and conclude with less than serious-minded solutions.

"Barack Hussein Obama is truly the worst president in history. That is neither offensive nor complimentary. Merely the truth." says JGalt.

You're right, the statement is neither particularly offensive nor complimentary, it's just an opinion, to which you are entitled. The problem is when we confuse opinion with some sort of widely-accepted, "thus-sayeth-the-lord" truth. Then, when we can't convince others of our "truth", we need to resort to name-calling and conspiracy theories to compensate for our lack of pursuasiveness and facts.

I'm not sure if Ringer has exhausted the entire list of conspiracy theories yet. He might still have some work to do. He's only in his mid-seventies -- he still has time: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/10/chart-obama-conspiracy-theories

Smokescreen?

Well Bubba, it's interesting you bring up smoke screens. "Wagon Riders" are the professionals in this field and have dominated that esteemed position forever. Don't bother insulting any conservatives on this comment line with not having any facts. Facts have been laid out by the dozens on the slide of this country into chaous and dept. Additional facts will only end up in the ignore section of your brain. "Think not what your country can do for you", was something that needed to be said and adhered to. Unfortunately this also ended up in the ignore bin. Ignoring what President Kennedy said has bought millions of votes and ballooned the bureaucracy, but it's bankrupting the country.

Ringer IS offensive

A fourth grader could have written Ringer's piece - and gotten a big F on it. Name-calling, the purest form of bullying, doesn't take any talent and is supposed to be what we are trying to minimize. It adds nothing to the conversation that Keith so desperately wants. Why would BDD or Morris pay anyone to write like this? He's been spewing this crap since the '80's. Am I, or anyone, smarter because we read his article? All I learned is he's a racist - I didn't learn anything new about the economy or any other issue.
How about a kinder, gentler BDD? Keith never writes anything positive about anything, even when there has been a lot of good stuff going on. Have you noticed the Dow doubled in 4 years? Lousy Obama. Have you noticed the unemployment rate has fallen a lot, as opposed to rising wildly under Bush?? Lousy Obama. Mayo wants to create 45,000 jobs in the state - how's he going to blast that?
Maybe the Brainerd area doesn't benefit from the positives because the masses are either too old or too undereducated to grab or attract the opportunities. Quit smoking, quit drinking, quit sitting around complaining about Commie Obamie. Do something for someone else, something positive - then we'll see if Keith will write about it.

Say what?

Okay, localmotive, if you want to change the subject matter over to the infamous 47% . . . I guess I'll bite. By "wagon riders", do you mean "takers"? Just want to be sure we're on the same (off-topic) page, here. Most of those "wagon riders", as summarized here, are the poor and elderly. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2932746/posts We could just let go of the wagon, and see where folks land? Maybe that's what Kennedy meant?

By the way, the oft-used (and misused) Kennedy quote is: "ASK not what your country ..." (not "Think not" what your country ...).

As long as we're remembering past Presidents' admonitions, though, I like this one, too:

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." FDR's words seem poignant in light of conspiracy talk, and also relevant to those who fearfully cling to their guns . . . rather than open their Bibles? Just a thought, as long as pot-stirring seems to be the preferred Dispatch-speak. If you're clinging too tightly to any book, you'll presumably have more trouble opening it, and absorbing it's contents. How's that for a hornet's nest? I'll check back this evening to catch up. Have a nice day, fellow BDD travelers!

Ringer

This will come as pure enlightenment to you "libs" but, if you don't like what Kieth or Ringer or Limbaugh or Fox says or shows.....don't read, don't watch..don't listen! I won't listen to a single word Ed "Schlitz Faced" Schultz says but, he's welcome to the airwaves and I'm glad he's there. I won't complain about his remarks, I only bring him up to illustrate there is a counter-balence to the right wing talkers. It's not my fault they (lib talkers) are without talent or intellect. I'll let their ratings testify to that.

'merica, love it or leave it!

By no means stay, and try to make a contribution. Of course there are offensive personalities on all sides. It goes without saying that you can flip through the T.V./radio channels and find your comfort zone, never exposing yourself to a single adversarial, challenging point of view.

If you're only tuned into your echo chamber, where do you pick up your broader education and debating skills, local? You're not required to examine and contemplate your views much when only surrounded by political clones and dittoheads.

Regarding the Brainerd Dispatch, there aren't quite as many choices on the remote control for local news. So, if a reader is sickened by Ringer's one-note, childish rants, they can either cancel their subscription, cutting themselves off from local stories and information provided by the main local paper, or they can hold their nose as they tiptoe past the editorial page. Some of these letter writers are, apparently, trying to cajole the BDD management (if it's even in their control) into providing a better quality, less intentionally-offensive, conservative columnist. They can try -- but I'm not holding my breath. And, yes, I will put my money where my mouth is as soon as I'm asked to pay for this product online. You can read the paper for free at the grocery store, or in the library, or while you fill up your truck at the gas station ... if you really need the local content (and choose not to finance Ringer's retirement in any fashion).

Kennedy quote

Now I'm really embarrassed. Thank you for pointing that out. I'm positive the point I was trying to make was completely missed until you corrected the mistake. If Kennedy were to give this speech again, he would have a chance to reconsider the wording, since asking people to not think of themselves, and instead think of what is best for the country appears to have been erased from current consideration. Thanks again.
Wagon riders. I'm all for taking care of the elderly and the poor. What I'm not for is the conception, implementation and sustaining of countless programs that do little to get the able bodied-back on their feet and off the dependent rolls.

Read my comments

Read my comments to Bubba yesterday. It appears he never learns. He trys this same garbage everytime he wants to get into a conversation. Now today, it appears he has localmotive and purpose telling him to put up or shut up. That's two days in a row and he doesn't learn. Just BLAB-ON Bubba. Hey Bubba, you are doing the libs more damage than good every time you open your mouth. Pretty soon your own libs will be telling you to shut up. I have no interest or comments on this article but I do like to read it. This comment is directed at Bubba and not the topic of discussion. Keep up the good work Localmotive and Purposed. Maybe Bubba will fall on his head some day and his tongue will become re-attached to his brain. Accidents do happen.

Put it down

What is so complicated about just not reading the Ringer column if you are offended. I don't read it unless one of these complainers act offended and then I may look up what they are offended about.

Do you really have to read everything in a paper?
Wow, and you complain about something in a paper that you don't even pay for . That is offensive in itself. I can truthfully say that I never read everything in any paper including the ones we pay for . Today I have this paper, Mpls Tribune and the Wall Street Journal all waiting for me to read them.

I did read the BDD and the Mpls paper and the Mpls paper had an article on a lady that got picked up for speeding 4 times in one day.

Is that granny...naked?

Let me see here...How can I put this...anyone besides myself notice their first paycheck of 2013 brought less to the bank account and more to Washington and the health insurance companies?

I will give those who bought into Obama was going to fill the gas tank, pay off the mortgage, bring peace to the Middle East, bring our troops home and solve our environmental issues credit for their resolve or blind faith. But when the juice wears off I have a feeling that those who donned the pointed hat of what they were told was a hat of a wizard turned out to be the hat of the dunce, the majority will realized they have been duped big time.Maybe that is the hidden reason behind the urgency to ban semi auto guns, clips and ammo.

Now what does this have to do with granny? Well she didn't get pushed over the cliff in her wheel chair like we were told if the "bad guys" won, but she did get left of the edge of the cliff buck naked. So what would have been better for her?

Trough extenders

To add a little info about the countless gov't programs currently running... approximately 90,000 state, federal and local entities. They employ 19,599,463 people in full and part time positions. I'm sure many of these employees are terrific and I'm inclined to think that some are efficient and diligent. I also think there may be too many.

Local -- Agreed, there's no doubt always room for trimming

some fat. The number of gov't employees HAS gone down under Obama, however. (http://www.alternet.org/hot-news-views/dr-krugman-schools-flabbergasted-...) -- which doesn't mean more efficiency can't be realized.

The largest gov't employers around Brainerd would be the local and state agencies like schools, county, DNR ..., plus Camp Ripley is huge. They could all probably use a haircut. We need to remember, though, that their paychecks are spent in other non-gov't local businesses, too, so there's a ripple effect.

What happened to all of the "lefters" who used to be part of this site? We're all being scared off by the intellectual prowess of your Conservative Cabal, I guess! I'm "in" until Ash Wed.

Public employment

Bubba... we are at least within a few pages of each other. My next whinning would be due to the use of Dr. Krudman as a credible reference in anything related to fiscal responsibility. He wants more stimulus when nearly nothing has been achieved with the 1T plus already p'd away. How this escapee from Barnum-Bailey ever ended up as a respected spokesman for economic thought is beyond comprehension. If it wouldn't be for the other clowns at the Nobel giving him and "O" kiss-up awards, he'd be just another Austin Goolsbee.
