Takes offense

Posted: January 24, 2013 - 5:48pm

I am a 50-year subscriber of your paper.

In the reader opinion letter from Tom Lund of Longville Friday, Jan. 18, I was offended by what he wrote about our President Barack Obama.

You printed King Obama.

That letter served no purpose and was disrespectful of our president.

We should respect the office and our president.

There are a lot of senators and congressmen and women who are to blame for the things passed in Washington.

Bashing our president was hurtful to me and my family.

You can call this free speech. I call it trash.

Please don’t print any more racial letters about our president.

Also that big picture of the assault rifles was offensive and served no purpose. It wasn’t even local.

After all the deaths of children and adults that is poor journalism. Have respect for the deceased and families.

I’m sure many people agree with these two subjects.

Please keep things positive.

The world is full of non-positive things.

News should have some good in it.

I have a few positive things for you Marylou

1. King Obama has less than 4 years left
2. There is no way any assault weapons ban will pass through Congress.
3.I'm sure many people agree with these two things.

Have a wonderful day!

Biggest news stories of our generation

Yes, Please, Let's stop printing news in the newspaper. The word "King" does not denote race. It denotes ultimate power that answers to no one. Some people feel this way about the current president. This epitomizes what the meaning of freedom of speech is. Study American Presidential elections and you will see that calling a sitting president "King" is REALLY tame. The gun control legislation that is in process now may be the watershed issue of our lifetime. But it's much better to click your heels together and wish them away. Sorry but that's not going to happen. If you don't want to read about news you may want to stop reading the NEWSpaper.(See what I did there)

Brush 'em off, Mary Lou, and remember:

“Rudeness is the weak man’s imitation of strength.”
― Edmund Burke

Have a bit of pity, ML. Even we so-called Christians can't quite control our thoughts/speech such that they would be pleasing to our Maker! Ah, the temptations of temporal anonymity! It's so much more fun to rip-off a zinger or a snappy put-down. And Lord only knows, Pres. Obama practically begs for name-calling and put-downs, especially now in his second term when he's increasingly refusing to be a door-mat for his detractors. The unmitigated gall! Shoot --he's acting like he won a comfortable majority of the vote or something.

If that's the best you can muster, that good ole "do unto others

as you've been dumped upon", by all means, step on up to that high ground and let the comeuppances spew forth. Or, we can teach our kids/students (and grudging adults) to show a little respect for the Office of the POTUS, regardless of who sits there. No harm in that old "esprit de corp"/patriotism, if we can somehow get back to a time when that was commonplace. But maybe we've passed the point of no return on this? Politics as bloodsport, even to the extreme degree it's "played" today, is probably just our new norm. We're definitely not that "shining City on a Hill" aspired to by those who've gone before us, exclaiming "American exceptionalism".

Bubs, pull the bag of your head. You seem to be suffering

from CO2 poisoning. Don't hide ignorance behind Christianity, it just makes you look small(er)!

Bubba obviously you never knew.....

Bubba obviously you never knew respect is earned. I do not respect a person because of a postion they hold, I respect the person holdign that position and KING OBAMA has done very little what he has promised. First of all where iis the transparency, when he and his administration lied about the attack on the embassy in Benghazi, Libya. A President is exactly like the captain of his ship in regards they must take responsinbility what happens on his ship/ or happens under his watch while he is president. He and his administration let 4 Americans die without sending help. Of course the main stream media wont tell you that because they all kiss his backside so much. So people should respect him for letting 4 Americans die without sending aid? I Dont think so!!! Bubba go ahead and respect people because of their postion not who they really are as a person, its your choice. You can take YOUR Moral high ground and bring religion into this, but as far as I know the Democrats even tried to get rid of using the words got at their convention, HMMMM Go Figure.
Funny how you talk about patriotism, when more people dont care about what happened in Benghazi, but care more about whats in it for me. They care more about what can the Government do for them. Wheres the Patriotism in that?
Every Position, even the POTUS has to earn respect. King Obama hasnt shown bipartisanship at all, its his way or the highway. Obama has driven such a big wedge between Democrats and Republicans they refuse to work together. Someone from either the democrat or republican party has to stand up and say lets work together and actually means it gets my RESPECT!!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

Thanks for sharing, Vet68. God Bless America --

the land where we can still agree to disagree, and live to see another day. Thanks for your service! You have a nice evening. You too, Pdnet! And thanks for your concern -- I'm breathing just fine, and I'm comfortable with my understanding of the scripture in Matthew 7:12 (and I'm glad you're content with yours).

Marylou Hope on the Horizon from the RNC Yesterday , Profound

The recently reelected RNC Chairman stated

" For the GOP to survive the group has to quit saying/doing STUPID THINGS and making people ANGRY"

Makes you wonder if any of the republicon faithful were listening?

If they were should we be scared ?

Some how I seriously doubt it.

I hated Bush

But I always respected the fact that he was President of the United States. You may not like the man or woman, but give the office some respect.
