I normally don’t write to newspapers. Now it seems that the far left has taken control of the gun debate. Let’s get a few facts straight.
A .22-cal. semi auto, a 12-ga. semi auto and a 30.06-semi auto are not assault weapons. An M-16 and an M-60 50-cal. full automatics are military, are outlawed for private ownership and are assault weapons.
Let the tree huggers collect a few facts before they attack our rights.
1. Most serial killers are or have been treated for mental illness.
2. A history of mental illness (unless documented) does not preclude weapons ownership.
3. To my knowledge there is no federal registry for the mentally disabled as there is for convicted felons.
Let’s listen to China, Russia, Iran, etc. Disarm America. They certainly don’t have a hidden agenda or forbid ownership of firearms to the mentally disabled and their families. Duh!

The MAJORITY of crimes (85%) involving weapons are committed using handguns, not the "assault weapons" (regardless of how the anti-gun crowd defines them) that everyone is so fixated on.

It sure is amazing Captron that you all you took form his letter is calling people idiot gun owners. How can you possibly make a sweeping statement about people calling them diot gun owners? How do you know that people dont have their weapons and ammo properly stored and yet someone breaks in and finds a way to get their weapons and ammo? Stop whining and trying to make up what ifs and go with the facts. Oh wait your one of these far left persons that know everything and you could never be wrong.
