Follow the money

Follow the money

Over a year ago, the Brainerd School District asked the community for more money to help prevent continuing program cuts and increasing class sizes. Some of us voted for, some against and some not given the option as their homes are not primary homes. Since then the teachers have received a raise, last month the Principals were given a “salary enhancement” in which two board members voted against it because they felt uncomfortable with the “enhancement”. Next in line are the E/A’s and so on.

Have any cut programs been reinstated or new one introduced? Has anything been done about reducing class size besides families open enrolling out of the district or simply home schooling? What about having the district simply meet minimal educational standards that it has failed to do over the past five years. This money was meant to benefit our children and so far everyone has benefitted but the children/students.

For crying out loud, there’s so much inquiry as to how the so called rich spend their own money and don’t even have that same curiosity as to how our tax dollars are being spent.

If I remember correctly...

The teachers agreed to a new contract before the levy increase was voted on. What I understood the levy was for was to fund ongoing operations and cover shortfalls due to uneven state and federal funding. If they can add programs back in that would be gravy. I also don't remember being promised that all wages would be frozen, nor do I think that leads to long term quality.

I was not aware that the school district is not meeting "minimal standards" for the last five years running. This seems like an over generalized statement.

Let me see if my memory serves me correctly.

Doesn't Bill Cruz have (or had) a lawsuit filed against ISD 181? Having to defend itself against absurd lawsuits probably doesn't help the district's pocket book either.

Hey Cruz

You have a serious case of sour grapes. Fired from Nisswa School as an E.A, unsuccessful run at school board...just be good boy and stock your milk.
