I just read Robert Ringer’s comments in the Brainerd Dispatch under the title: Next Up: going over the Tyranny Cliff.
A remarkable article for its insightful honesty that should be clear to every American but, unfortunately, most Americans remain oblivious to it. I am glad someone in journalism has expressed my own thoughts on the subject.
Ringer is a modern day Henry or Jefferson. I hope I see more of his fine writing.

Add commentModern day Jefferson?
Are you talking about the Jefferson who dismantled the country's first standing army? The one who abhorred violence and uncivil behavior? The one who expanded the nation's debt and violated the constitution by purchasing the Louisiana Territory? The one who edited the Bible and fathered children by one of his slaves? That Jefferson? He'd be thrown out of today's Republican party the first time he opened his mouth.
Thomas Jefferson was an incredibly complex individual, and attempts to define him using one eight-second soundbite, taken totally out of context, are laughable and demeaning to one of the greatest of our founding fathers. Instead of constantly re-writing history, people should actually start reading about it. It's a wonderful story.

Maybe you can find out more about this Ringer's background and write about it.
He is an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
Otter .... just a small
Otter .... just a small add-on to your words re: Jefferson, the 'Louisiana Purchase' and the understanding of history.
One cannot 'purchase' what is not for sale. The Native Americans who had occupied those lands for centuries had no inclination to 'sell'. Jefferson and the US gov't paid France for their 'claim' to those lands. I'm quite sure you get the picture, Otter ..... most Americans are clueless.
Ringer may be "remarkable", but not for "insightful honesty"
There are plenty of good conservative commentators out there, who provide useful insights for any thinking American. Ringer isn't one of them. Some more on Ringer's problem with factual accuracy/honesty here: http://conwebwatch.tripod.com/stories/2010/ringer.html
