Briton Piers Morgan, a talk show host on CNN has advocated confiscation of all guns in America. The push back has been intense. Spearheading the petition to have Morgan sent packing is Alex Jones, a Libertarian-constitutionalist who took on Morgan on Morgan’s CNN stage.
Morgan has surfaced as the mouthpiece for gun control in America following the massacre of 26 children and adults in Newtown, Conn. Morgan, an insult-hurling liberal slammed one recent guest: “He has called Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, ‘dangerous,’ ‘stupid’ and an ‘idiot,’ and told John Lott, the author of ‘More Guns, Less Crime,’ that he needed ‘to stop repeating a blatant lie.”
Morgan claims that his push for gun control in America is not about politics. Well, according to recent surveys by Gallup and Pew Research Center, 42 to 46 percent of Americans oppose gun control legislation.
Jay Carney, White House press secretary responded to the petition to deport Morgan: “The White House responds to all petitions that cross the threshold and we will respond to this one. In the meantime, it’s worth remembering that the freedom of expression is a bedrock principle in our democracy.”
Morgan’s most vociferous critic is Jones, who stated: “The Second Amendment isn’t there for duck hunting. It’s there to protect us from tyrannical government and street thugs.”
Great Britain, Morgan’s country of origin, confiscated guns from its citizens. In the 16 years since confiscating guns, violent crime has tripled in Britain.
According to Federal Bureau of Investigation crime statistics in the United States, 2011 violent crime has decreased by more than 20 percent.
Without a doubt, this debate will continue. However, Minnesota senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar have sorted through the hot air rhetoric that is being released by CNN and have addressed one of the real causes for violence in Colorado and Connecticut — they want better mental health care. (Both shooters involved in killing scores of people had mental illness issues.) Let’s address the real issues and leave our duck hunters alone.

I wonder how many duck hunters use AK-47 or other semi-automatic rifles to shoot ducks?
can't
Can't shoot the duck with skill, get an AK-47 and flock shoot. How many of those ducks will go to waste because they didn't find them all?
Poor bird dog is ruined and is back hiding in the truck.
Big, skillful hunters.
The 2nd Amendment doesn't
mention duck hunting. Or, for that matter, any other kind of hunting.Read it sometime.
Define violent crime.
"Great Britain, Morgan’s country of origin, confiscated guns from its citizens. In the 16 years since confiscating guns, violent crime has tripled in Britain."
46 homicides by guns in Great Britain
9146 homicides by guns in the USA
At least the British aren't dying in classrooms and churches. They are generally surviving the robberies and gun usage that occurs. Only 46 dying....wouldn't that be a great statistic to strive for?
In 2010 there were 12,996 murders in the US. Of those, 8,775 were caused by firearms. But, that figure is small compared to accidental shooting deaths, including suicide, which brings the annual total to more than 30,000.

DITTO - Two thumbs up and a gold star.
I agree that the posted signs
I agree that the posted signs telling everyone that no guns are allowed in the building are trouble. When I go in one of those buildings, I usually look around and get my business over quickly.
Mental health, domestic issues, drugs and alcohol and evil people are the problem. Isn't there usually some kind of mixture of these problems involved?
Fear not.
We have lots of guns, fellas/ women. And some are the semi-automatic type.
In fact, the suicide problem is more bothersome, as that is probably more prevalent in the US than murders, whether by gun or other means. So health care is the real issue, but god forbid we provide it to all in need.
I wonder if Mr Morgan is
I wonder if Mr Morgan is deported if he will be forced to take his ARMED security with him!
I love it
when southie uses stats from a country with less than one fifth of the population the US has. I'm also pretty sure they have less than a few hundred illegals there to commit half of their crime. Lets continue to compare acorns and watermelon all day! I'd also bet that the Queen's law enforcement people don't sell guns to Irish terrorists.
FNB...read Keith's story
That is his quote. Thrown out against the wall as usual with nothing to back it up and no definition of his terms. And GB was already fairly free of homicides by guns. And even if that statistic tripled, it was still under 100.
So at the max, 100 deaths a year in the United Kingdom, would equal per capita, 500 deaths in the US. hmm...that would be amazing if that is what we had.
First Amendment is also in play...
From my understanding on the KQRS morning show yesterday, the lists that are compiled for background checks and gun registrations are public record and can be published...
First Amendment right folks comes into play...
Downside.:.
It's a list that gives gun thieves a wonderful search engine...
Correct me if background checks and gun registrations are not public records and can be published with First Amendment rights in play...
I have done that, Purposed.
Glad I don't live there anymore.
What is your suggestion?
This is what I don't understand...
Why is it that if all my guns are legally registered, I have never had so much as a parking ticket for criminal offenses, I've gone through all the required background checks, that now I have to defend my right to keep those guns. I understand the arguement that we are only going after certain types of guns and we want to limit the size of clips etc. etc. etc. But once that law is enacted what is to say they aren't going to eliminate the right to own a semi-automatic or pump shotgun? Why is that I have to pay the penalty for the crazies out there and if I give up my guns can someone guarantee me that gun violence (with the people that shouldn't have the guns) is going to end? Or is it just easier, since I'm a law abiding citizen, to take my guns so the politicians can walk around and tell their people all they have done to get guns off the streets?
What about Chicago ?
What is the situation in Chicago when they already have strict
gun laws.? People are being killed with illegal guns. So, stricter gun laws will do what again?
One thing is they won't be able to blame Republicans as Democrats and unions rule. It is almost a given that the governors will serve a prison term.
There obviously is more than a gang problem there with so many corrupt politicians. As for the teachers union, and the schools well, have you heard anything good coming from that?
Before we go forward with the country on some new gun laws, how about using Chicago as a test?
People including the Chicago politicians do not care about
all the people killed there.
Too late
There will be an executive order issued by President Obama
to regulate guns. Wow, another power grab.
Good discussion started in DC
Proposals to discuss:
Reinstate the assault weapons ban, ban large clips, do better background checks, and track large purchases. Sounds like reasonable actions for the good of all Americans.
Why do people shoot people?
Will there be exceptions for Hollywood movies and videos?
Will the gangs and rappers be exempt?
All of the above looks good on paper but, it is meant for
law-abiding citizens not illegals, gang members, and evil people. If they aren't in the mental health system (whatever that is) then can they still get a gun?
Another "feel good" executive order. Gather some more voters too.
What about mental health issues, domestic abuse, drugs and alcohol? I include in that suicides since many times one of the above is also present.
This guy at reality check,
Does a really good job. Everyone from both sides of the issue should watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OEeuMjG-94A#!
Let's not do anything.
What the heck, we have this mourning over mass shootings down pretty good. First the sheriffs speak at the scene, then the governors speak, then the President speaks, and of course a few congresspeople speak, then the NRA speaks, and then the families of the deceased speak. And then all the pundits and bloggers have a topic for a week or two. And then good and kind Americans take a stand on both sides of the issue and swap jabs at each other online.
And we can't regulate or change anything without stepping on someone's principles. And even though 85% of the children who are killed with guns in the entire world are killed in the good old USA, it is better to preserve all of our god-given second amendment rights than have some dictators in government trying to change anything. It is just too partisan of an issue and divides our country too much.
And we have to think about the debt ceiling and sequestration and the unemployment rate and Planned Parenthood.
First things first.
Yes, we have that mourning process down pat.
Time to move on.
Has everyone
Forgotten this mass shooting that happened in Norway which has very strict gun laws??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8B8dnbdvr8&feature=player_embedded
This guy breaks it all down
by the numbers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ooa98FHuaU0
Hey Purposed-lets talk fish
I poked a 14 pounder this afternoon about 3:20. Missed a small one, about 3-4 pounds this morn. Also got 2 muskrats this afternoon. They sure do make a mess when they get in your house. Maybe the hogs are going to start running now.
southie left
with {filtered statement} facts are very confusing for liberal traitors that want to disarm good Americans.
Her and the 'olfster'll have to huff and puff at the H-Post to find some lies to come back with.
Good Job mav!
Another thing,
appx. 5500 gun deaths including cops and law abiding citizens shooting bad guys and gals.
In the same time frame bad doctors kill (malpractice Murder) close to 100,000 people and over 10,000 of them are kids. (ONE YEAR FOLKS)
Is Obama going to illegally try to get rid of them too?
I thought not..............
Violent crimes
Southi are defined as rapes burglaries and other crimes involving weapons, not just murders. Why don't you show those combined stats? You say sarcastically just do nothing then and no one is saying not to do anything we're just saying lets do something that might actually help these problems, not make crime and things worse. Too bad the agenda has been exposed, never let a good disaster go to waste eh?
FnB
I don't want to disarm good Americans, I just want to disarm you.
As far as medical malpractice is concerned, Wikipedia states that 195,000 people are killed each year. Aren't you Republicans the ones who always scream for tort reform? Aren't you the ones who want to punish the doctors and the system LESS not more? So what are you whining about now, for god's sake?
Fred
Personal attacks much?
Blah, blah, blah, blah...
The point is that more and more of us see nutters with guns, shooting congresswomen, moviegoers, and little kids, and the most vocal crowd's only answer is "more guns".
Wolfy
Gosh I believe we've also called for better mental health screening and for better use of existing legislature to help too, but go ahead and keep pushing your anti-gun views, not gonna work!
In the meantime,
While all of you are arguing. President Obama singed the NDAA into law today, but you probably didn't hear about it. The bill that will keep Guantanamo Bay open and make indefinite detention for US citizens as likely as ever.
You may now proceed to your regular scheduled "programming" bickering back and forth about how the gov should be able to take our guns.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQXZoM__vU0
Just sayin
The NDAA allows the military to detain United States citizens indefinitely without charge or trial for mere suspicions of ties to terrorism.
