Don't block sidewalks

Don’t block sidewalks

Hi. I am a Brainerd resident and I reside in the vicinity of South Eighth Street by the old Washington school. I am appalled at the lack of respect and poor judgment of the people who work at the school building and park along that street. The snow plows plow the snow up onto the curb and we residents or someone clear our sidewalks that go on to the street. I almost fell trying to get to a car that was picking me up because a car was blocking the sidewalk, upon my return to go back to my house I did fall because the car was still blocking access to the sidewalk. All I am asking is that some common sense is used and to not block the sidewalks.

Sorry Mary Again

It's not just Brainerd area. I had the same problems in St Paul. It's a teacher/teacher union mentality. The school by my house has many acres of their own property to park on but it's to far for the lazy --- teachers to walk. If they had their way, they would have taxpayer paid valet service. After all, they are the heros that jump in front of flying bullets, and protect your children from getting disciplined by their parents. They have 4 year college degrees ya know. Some even have advanced degrees paid for by the taxpayers. They can't teach reading, writing and arithmetic but they can sure screw with the citizens lives. Sorry Mary. You touched a touchy subject. You'll probably find the same feelings from 95% of the people, barring the school teachers. Good luck with your problem.

bad day, Charlie?

Now is probably not a good time to laugh at teachers dying in a hail of gunfire.

Maybe you could go back and edit for taste.

Happy New Year you cruel and pathetic old...
Don't come snarling in here like you don't have this [filtered word] chewing coming.
Teachers are braver than you every single day. They are doing what you can't. Don't make me list them off.

Be careful

Back to her problem. I don't go around there much, but
I did think there was a parking lot somewhere back there.

It is probably not a teacher but someone in education.
You could tell if the cars aren't there, when there is
school vacation.

Write a note about the problem and bring it in and ask
them to distribute it to everyone. Maybe they don't understand that there could be a problem.

sidewalk

If this lady is talking about blocking the sidewalk at the end of her street then she should complain but if she is talking about the sidewalk that leads to the street right in front of her house then sorry ----- those are fair game to block. Thats just part of living in the big city.

You are a sad 'man', my friend. I hope the New Year brings a new socially normed Charlie . . . . .this teacher is pulling for you. I believe some people take the longroad to getting educated; it appears you took the longest road of all, the one that eventually turns to gravel because most people have reached their destination already.

Happy New Year!

I don't need

I don't need to change my mood OFB. What Charlie said was so wrong. He just thinks that he is King *** and what he says is gold or funny.
Do you actually think his remark was necessary or funny?

Happy New Year OFB.

I guess you are saying that respect and courtesy for others is pretty much dead in Brainerd (which is not a big city ) just pretends to be one. So I guess if I do fall and really get hurt I should take down the license plate of the car that blocked the access to sidewalk and the city would be fair game as well.

Not used to seeing the truth

Looks like the truth bothers people. If the truth hurts, then perhaps you shouldn't read my posts, because thats all you're gonna get from me. By the way, where were all you do-gooders when the lib trash tried to hang me for the Craavack event. Didn't work did it. Respect is vacant in todays schools because those teaching it don't know what it even is. They don't practice it themselves. My posts to this site are reviewed twice before being posted, so what I said is what I meant. I'm not looking for lovers on this site. Happy New Year to all.

Hope you're okay

The funny part about these comments is that the school isn't used as a school anymore, so there are not teachers parking there.

Sorry that you fell and got hurt. Hope the city sees this and can help keep the sidewalks clear in the future.

Charlie

Sometimes the chip on your shoulder can be so big it prevents you from seeing what is right in front of you.
Sorry for the person who fell or has trouble navigating with a blocked sidewalk. I may be mistaken but don't think there's any prohibition on parking in front of a sidewalk there. I do think you can get the city to mark such locations as off limits to parking though. Maybe check in with the city on that?

Yes check with the city and as I stated above, you can bring
a letter into the building and ask them to circulate your
concerns on the parking. You may not be the only one that is involved.

As I also said earlier, I don't think it is teachers, but may be someone in education. I don't know what the building is used for, but isn't there a parking lot back there somewhere?

Hope you can figure it out and that it helped to write into this paper.

Common courtesy

We live by the hospital. It happens there too. I realize there is no "law" to abide by here, but it just seems this should be common courtesy when parking in a residential area. I would love to have my sidewalk access free of vehicles, and would also appreciate those vehicles not parking there on snow days so the plow could adequately clear the roads.

This City

And it's plowing methods are terrible. After 4 mornings of a half inch of snow, the city's solution is to throw as much dirt as possible on the roads. How about a plowing schedule??? Let people know when the plow will go through so they can move their car. Ticket those that don't move. C'mon Brainerd, get with the times.

Reasonable but still...

It's an easy fix clearing sidewalks and streets... You start towing cars and fining negligent home owners, but it doesn't work that way here most of the time because people are given the benefit of the doubt to do the right thing. It's the jerks that don't take care of business that are the problem and ruin it for everyone else. As for the political finger pointing; it's better to be silent and be thought of as stupid then to open your mouth and remove all doubt. This isn't a school problem, it's a building tenant problem.

The simple solution for people who say such vile things is to ignore them entirely because all they want is attention. Much like any disgusting mass murderer in the media, they spend their time finger pointing and blaming others for problems in their life they choose not to transcend. I feel sorry for people like that because their personalities make them incapable of making a difference other than negatively affecting others, so in closing I move that we ignore such petty people as our lives are too short to listen to the repetitive garbage they spew.

This was not suppose to be turned into your own agendas......

Once again it seems that people get side tracked into other things in the comments made here.
I did contact the city and essentially was told there is no ordinance to put up a sign prohibiting parking in front of sidewalk access and if they did it for me they would have to do it for everyone. The main man in charge was out on vacation however they will get back to me.
This street is a snow route so it is normally cleared first by snow plows. To the person who mentioned it is building tenant problem ...it is not the tenants parking in front of the sidewalk .
