Align our moral compass

Posted: December 20, 2012 - 6:37pm

These last few days have truly been difficult for our country and horrible for the people who were personally involved. We wonder how anyone could commit such a crime as this, especially against little kids. Every time something like this happens we hear what should be done, “so it won’t happen again.” The reality is that it does happen again and it will this time too.

Putting more control on guns won’t solve the problem. Limiting the number of rounds a weapon holds might decrease the number of victims but there will still be times like this.

Guns are not the problem, people are, all of us. We have allowed our country to lose it’s moral compass. A compass always points in the same direction unless something interferes with it. It helps to keep a person from getting lost. We have allowed many things to disrupt our moral compass. Our compass points in any direction it pleases because it is not oriented on the One who knows the way. Taking something away is

not the answer, we need to put something back in. We need the teaching we used to receive before the Bible and the ten commandments were outlawed. Jesus said, “love God and love people” but a person has to learn to love from the one who is love, get our moral compasses pointing in the right direction and what we have endured these last days will begin to decrease.

By all means, read it then, Scribbles...

...being that it focuses on the moral teachings of Christ, you certainly could do a lot worse.

Coal

I see a sleigh full of coal being delivered to a lot of bratty kids stockings this year.
They will stand and snivel and wonder why they didn't get any candy this year.

Merry Christmas to all. Even the scrooges!

Moral compass of the mentally ill?

As a christian I often wonder what goes through the minds of those who make wild claims like the supposed (as it isn't true) lack of god in schools led to a mentally ill kid killing all those children out east.

Do they really think that a highly disturbed person is influenced by morality in all their actions?

And moreover--how do they think a non-christian capable of being converted reacts to such wild accusations?

This belief some have that god strikes down with vengeance any that don't believe--and if only they would believe they would be protected--or that people who follow a non-christian religion can't possibly have a "moral compass"--likely drives more people AWAY from Christianity.

Need to learn to shut your big mouth!

So how many points did that statement earn F n B? What a joke the dispatch "Points" system is! They can't possibly claim they want to really clean up the bitter vitriolic banter on their boards when such speech is rewarded!

Though it seems we come at things from the opposite end of the spectrum, you make some good points. Thanks.

Why Is It An American Problem?

Do non-US countries allow God in their schools?
Do non-US countries ban violent video games?
Do non-US countries love God more?
Do non-US countries have a better moral compass?

The US has 5% of the world's population, but has 50% of the world's guns.

Blaming video games, lack of God in schools, gays/lesbians or whatever else the right wing wants to blame are distractions from the real issue - a gun culture that worships firearms.

After tagedies such as this,

After tagedies such as this, MSnBC rapidly finds and interviews other ladies who are trying to cope with a seriously disturbed child and the two words that always strike me are "single mom". Sharpton's next question should be, "How did you come to be a single mom and where or who is the father?

Why Is It An American Problem? Part II

So now it is single moms? I guess those non-US countries also do not have single moms. Who knew.

What's next? Peanut allergies?

It is possible for people to

It is possible for people to be concerned and caring and
are merely commenting on what they see to be part of the problem.

I think it is a mixture of many problems so the "all of the above" approach should be taken.Does the lack of God in schools cause a mentally ill person to go off and shoot people?
Probably not, but it is possible that the people expressing something like that understand that and think that is part
of a big problem for all kids. The point on morals and mentally ill is well taken.

I think most people are very concerned and are doing their
best at trying to understand and may make statements that
others disagree with which doesn't make anyone wrong.

I could care less about the point thingy. Why are all you Lefters so obsessed with it? Being in a minority can be depressive, I guess, but it's not really my fault that you are who you are.
