While reading the Dec. 9, 2012, Minneapolis Tribune, I came across an article titled “A Shameful Senate Vote.”
Thirty-eight Republicans cast ‘no’ votes against ratification of a UN treaty that banned discrimination against people with disabilities. The treaty is a model of the Americans with Disabilities Act which Republican President George H.W. Bush signed into law in 1990.
What made this so embarrassing is that former Republican Sen. Bob Dole was present, sitting in his wheelchair to watch the vote. Sen. Dole lost the use of his right arm and hand during World War II. A disabled American hero. This group of 38 insisted that the treaty would lead to UN interference with American sovereignty. How dumb! The vote fell five votes short of the two-thirds majority needed. Disgusting!

really want the UN deciding anything? Aren't our current laws enough? Read more about it before you pass judgement.
U.N.
Very true, we are covered on the disability law.
We should not want to be under anything regarding
the U.N.
Try to look deeper into these votes and you may discover
the reason may make sense in the lonnnnnnnng run.
Al
Do you think the U.N. law would look favorably upon the politically disabled? If you want some idea, for starters, look up the unreported reaction by the unions to the recent Michigan right-to-work flap.
Al Kraft Maybe you didnt hear impact of bill on daycare centers
According to the fruitcake " Conservative Media Entertainment Network " and their outlets that design information for clown & circus followers .
Their misinformation/distraction concluded that UN soldiers would be armed & stationed at all daycare centers in the US assuring compliance with handicap access regulations.
State offices all over the country were called by outraged republicons ,demanding a halt to this infringement on their
" God given rights " to deny access
Heaven forbid access ramps and bathrooms around the world allow access for the elderly & handicap folks .( Many who are Veterans).
Bob Dole is a great american , the idiot GOP members who voted this down , not so much.
What a disgrace !
Those darn UN soldiers that ended that little war in Bosnia
That " was" the Minnesotas National Guards mission , were nothing more than a bunch of glory hounds.
( 007 World Domination or heaven forbid World Peace)
Mostly foot note in history now , since we invaded Iraq to clear out all those WMDs.
I guess making the USA the worlds policeman is a tradition that must carry on since our countries defense spending is so similar to the nations that make up the rest of the world.
You mean the war
Clinton escalated to cover up his cigar escapade, Lil' Cappy?
Hate to burst your bubble unbalanced one , however in keeping
With all the Holiday traditions now on most normal peoples minds , including saving souls destined for unspeakable fiscal & political calamity, that "war" was actually PAID FOR by funding that was actually part of the US budget.
( What a concept)
Flash Back UBO ****** To the the booming economy of the Clinton era & " Tax Rates" !!
( I know pre Bush is hard to imagine with your super selective memory & highly developed reasoning skills.)
However Im certain thats a totally unfamiliar concept ( paid for wars) to a dying irrational fiscal conservative breed that worships the confederate flag and the independent Faux Entertainment Network free thinking spirit.
Like the circus folk say " there is one born every minute"
Too bad elderly & disabled folks ( easy targets) end up paying in the end by bearing the burden of GOP political stupidity.
The only solution going forward has to be another international "apology tour ", right ?
Purposed
Two thumbs up on the UN. We should have been out of there years ago.

I just mentioned at the beginning of the show: "I would like to wish a Happy Holidays to all the posters out there that were listening this morning." Not bad for a bitter old curmudgeon, eh. I have this show on the 2nd Friday of every month for Veterans.
Lil' Cappy,
I didn't say it wasn't funded properly (unlike Obama's Libyan and Syria excursions) I said it was escalated to help Clinton avert eyes from the sticky mess he left on the wrong dress.
Even Billery hasn't gotten over that but apparently you have the same morals as Billy.
