Judge Not

Posted: November 17, 2012 - 6:49pm

Respecting Craig Anderson’s (thankfully, we are in no way related) freedom of speech and exercising my own, I feel compelled to respond to Mr. Anderson’s ridiculous “Notice to Women” advice he so thoughtfully provided for us. I do not personally choose to wear “gaudy high boots just because the ‘fashion designers tell (me) to.’” But, as an intelligent woman capable of making my own “fashion” decisions with or without Mr. Anderson’s or anyone else’s advice, I am sickened, once again, by males judging what women wear.

Perhaps Mr. Anderson should have a friend video him? I imagine him with overgrown hair sprouting from his nostrils, or pants that don’t quite cover up his entire behind, or maybe he wears baggy sweatpants out and about.

Craig Anderson, unless you are perfect, and I assure you, you are not, find something better to do with your time than judge other people, especially women.

Janis D. Anderson

Art Becker has been cloned!

We now have Dennis Lang circulating viral emails from a comment section of a March 2010 Czech newspaper!

Glenn Beck has been reading this for over a year. Now there's an endorsement!

What a joke! Got anything current up your sleeve?

We survived one term, Dennis, and we are moving forward.

Got my morning laugh, how about the rest of you?
Thank you Janis, I had him pictured about the same way.

I'm surprised that you have listened/watched Glen Beck
for a year. That would seem to be the only way that you can
say with confidence that he has said it for a year.

I thought it was an interesting letter and he did sign his
name and city. I've never received any of these emails
and don't hear Beck so it was new to me.

Email history

"Given the 2004 date of first reference to the quote, the likeliest explanation is that it was an early response to then-Sen. Barack Obama's keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention on July 27 of that year. Commented Amy Goodman at DemocracyNow: "Analysts say his speech last night secured his status as a rising star within the party." Others immediately saw him as threat to become president."

Regarding Beck and others promoting the email:
"You can't pass something like this off, praise the specific source, then backpedal and say the source doesn't matter when it's shown to be false. ...(A)t best ... it's really, really bad journalism. At worst, they're willing to put their ideology above the truth and intentionally falsify facts to further their agenda."

The author concludes:
"Today, the multitude of fools are not Obama supporters but obliging right-wing email dupes -- whom this column will surely irritate but not embarrass."

Nothing embarrasses the right wing.

Mr. Becker,

Social Security is an entitlement. You will most likely draw more form it than you put in. You are freeloading, too. In order to uphold your dignity, I suggest you calculate how much you paid into this trust fund since you began working, then refuse payments when those checks you receive total more than you put in. Heck, I'll even grant you permission to index to inflation.

How can SS

be a entitlement if you are forced to contribute each and every paycheck? All SS is a forced retirement account that the government is allowed to manage however government wishes. Now I agree with you smart guy that in some cases one lives longer than expected and as a result benefits are more than what was paid in. There are far more cases that money is left in the bank with the government as the benefactor. Now let's talk about entitlement...it would be an entitlement if a person would not pay in at all but benefit from others that have contributed. You are a History teacher? Right?

Medicare/Medicaid

Once again this a government forced health maintenance account (HMA) to be activated after a person reaches a specific age or becomes disabled during their productive years, managed by our government with government as the benefactor. You've got cases that through the life cycle a person may not be able to contribute because of health issues from birth or occur before their productive years, then this becomes a part of the safety net for those unfortunate. This is where the village steps in and all help (entitlement). Both programs were not designed to supplement or be the sole source of resources for a normal, healthy person during their productive years.

My husband and I have both paid in double to SS and Medicare as we were the employer as well as employees.

I would gladly take you up on the "take as much as you have
given" and then quit. Oh there is a small thing called interest
or dividends that should be added as the SS and medicare
contributions were taken from us without a consent.
We owned and operated a private sector business and even
had employees that of course, we contributed to their
forced retirement and medicare.

I would not choose the government to handle my retirement
savings/future. That choice was made for me.
Hey, we could do that with all pensions and start with the
public sector pensions where there seems to be a problem
with the funding. You could only take out what you put in.

Myeye and Sadie

Myeye: You proved my point. It doesn't matter whethe ror not one paid in to Social Security if that person has still drawn out more than he/she has paid in. They are still getting some amount of Social Security 'for free'.

Sadie: I actually agree with much of your post. I never said I wasn't for privatization of Social Security. It actually has some appeals to it so long as the entire withholding is not allowed to go private. (I believe Bush's plan allowed for approx. half of one's Social Security dues to be spent on private investment?) But this is a separate issue, as some people still take out more than they pay in (those infamous 'takers'!) under the current system.

How about we raise the income limit on paying into Social Security for some partial privatization? Win-Win

Social security, I think was

Social security, I think was originally set up for retiree accounts, along the way we added disability, and dependent
coverage and who knows what else. Yes, I know people
who have collected more than they paid in. A relative collected disability payments and now collects retirement.

Have you noticed the many many new people that have been
added to SS disability? It seems their unemployment 99 weeks expires and somehow get on SS disability.
Someone was put on for restless leg syndrome so, there is
waste for sure in the system.

I do get irritated when someone infers to me that social security and medicare are an entitlement because in our case it is not. There are people that due to circumstances, are outliving their contributions.

Defining government entitlement programs:

"While "entitlement program" has become a pejorative phrase in some circles, with the insinuation that people are getting something they didn't earn, it's really just a term for any government program guaranteeing certain benefits to a segment of the population.

In short, it has nothing to do with whether recipients are deserving, nor it is linked to a cost-benefit analysis on taxes paid versus benefits received.

Social Security and Medicare are not just entitlement programs, they also are very much an example of redistribution.

Sure, American workers pay a specific tax to fund the Social Security and Medicare systems, and Social Security benefits are correlated to work history and earnings.

But especially when Medicare is taken into account, most senior citizens end up receiving more in Social Security and Medicare benefits than they paid into the system during their working years."

I work hard and long hours and have earned the time I use modern technology to counter the liberal destruction of the nation. Short days and 3 months off is a teachers job and I work all 7 mostly 365. I suppose you are just a month away from another taxpayer paid 2 weeks off?

Southie may have been almost right

in her 5:22 comment. The "great generation" had a very long life with many reaching 100 years old. Those people received way more than they paid in. However, if any of you have been paying any attention at all the "boomers" have been dying off at a much higher rate at a younger age. Us "boomers" paid the majority of the money into SS and the government stole it and left worthless IOUs in it's place. Notice I didn't say the Democrats, but the government.
People born after WW2 are dying at a faster rate than our parents and our government doesn't want to acknowedge that because they want us to work longer to pay their way.
smartguy and his 40 year old pals can scoff but people that are 60 now and have worked all their lives will have a hard time ever getting back what they paid in, without interest. I really feel that the younger generation doesn't want to pay in to take care of the "boomers".

Ah, what disability qualifies for social security benefits?
I think it depends on the disability judge and what district
you live in. My relative has Parkinsons and they hired one
of the lawyers to help. You can see the ads from law offices
to help get someone on ss disability. My relative should
be however, he also gets pay from that veterans agent orange
deal. I would not want to be him.

From what I can tell without further research is there are
some disability judges that ok all applicants without much
of a review. It is just something to look at why there has
been such a big jump in disability claims after people
have exhausted unemployment .

I think there are a few definitions for the word "entitlement".

I paid for a ticket to the movie and am now entitled to view it.

Actually we saw the new James Bond movie ( before 6PM of course) and we enjoyed it.

Since you are gracious in pointing out any typos I have in my posts, I want to return the favor to you. I have edited (no charge for this, by the way) your earlier post:

I punch in and punch out and have wasted the time I use modern technology to counter the voice of reason of the nation. 8 Hour contracted days and 3 months unpaid time off is a teachers job and I show up to work all 7 mostly 365 because I have settled for this or because I have no people skills to work in a better job. I suppose you are just a month away from another taxpayer paid 5 days (can’t count the weekend!)?

Happy Holidays!
