Vote Stevenson

If your mailbox looks anything like that of my friends and family, it has been filled with attack ads recently. Friends of my opponent who call themselves the Freedom Club have poured tens of thousands of dollars into your mailbox with an old picture of me from college, trying to assign blame and incite fear. The point of this kind of rhetoric is not to inform anyone. It isn’t to promote an honest and informed discussion about issues. This is just fine for the people putting this stuff out, because they don’t have and are not interested in solutions to the problems we face either.

I want to make a few things clear. I’m not in anyone’s pocket. I’m supported by teachers, workers, firefighters, and nurses. I’m supported by the people who teach our kids, build our roads, save our lives, and keep us safe, and I’m proud of that. Do I agree with everything that everyone who supports me believes? No. Who does? What I do believe in is honesty and transparency.I hope you will demand better of politics for our community and will judge me on the basis of my ideas, my character, and the good work I have done in this community.  Don’t let yourself be fooled by these mailings we all have seen that carefully select quotations out of context from Labor or other organizations, usually from the fringe of the political spectrum, frequently presented in a misleading manner, and always omitting my own stated views, which more nearly reflect the views of many in our area who believe in a more common sense, accountable government.

I hope the concrete ideas and solutions you have heard directly from me at your door, on your phone, or in your paper will earn me your vote.

Taylor Stevenson

An "old" picture from college?

How old could that possibly be?

Letter

I would like to know how this letter is online but not in the paper, same with the David Strand letter. Different rules for different parties? As I read the rules no letters were allowed after Oct 31, these are dated Nov 2nd.

We aren't fooled by the mailings as most of us don't even
look at them. We are able to make up our mind without them.

It is a nicely worded letter, but I will pass on voting for you.

Flyers

The flyers I got all talk about Stevensons union endorsements
SEIU, AFSME, ED MN, IBEW etc etc. You can't boast about their endorsement and take their money and then say you don't stand for what they stand for. Stevensons own flyers state that he is a respected teacher and coach yet he has no education degree and according to the MN education web site has a limited short term sub certificate. Stevenson needs to grow up and get a job

This letter was actually in Wednesday's paper. We were having some issues with the opinion page's content not being sent to our website. David Strand's letter was in the paper (page 8, Oct. 31) and on our website. It did not post online until today due to a technical error.

Thanks in advance for your patience,

An "old" picture from college?

I laughed because 5 minutes before I read that my grandson asked "Do you remember when I was little?"
He turned 6 last month.

Good letter, Taylor. Don't

Good letter, Taylor. Don't be discouraged by the negative comments here. Too many people enjoy giving opinions without logic, supporting data and/or reason. I have to trust that they don't represent the majority of citizens in District 10

What planet do you live on. There is plenty of supporting data. Just go to Tay Stevenson on face book. Pictures are worth a thousand words unless of course that has been scrubbed like his web site, says absolutely nothing

you Tea Party types are running a candidate who was arrested

http://brainerddispatch.com/stories/010804/new_0108040027.shtml

for making real death threats

you probably do not want to go there.

Odd this did not come up in the Ward 3 race, there's a lot of MN Nice out there is all I can say.

Czeczok was arrested for threatening to kill Scheeler, real time, he called him several times and was arrested. And you are whining about an 'off hand remark' a guy made to some GOP operatives who were on Paul Gazelka's committee? Get off your high horse.

familiar with MN Nice Galt?

Are you still promoting Ayn Rand? You do know she was against religion and for abortion?

And later in life she drew those horrible socialism benefits, mostly because she was a chain smoker and had health issues from that.

Some 'hero.'

I do not need the apology though. Send it to Taylor for slandering him.

but he did not call or threaten anyone - Czeczok did

and did Czeczok EVER admit he was wrong to call and threaten the council person's life?

If every 'mad' off hand remark we made was turned over to the media and police, we would all be in trouble me thinks.

100 years ago socialists were fighting for workers (they were workers) and were the only ones that were! Where do you think the 8 hour workday, weekend, overtime, minimum wage, fixing extremely dangerous working conditions, etc. etc. all came from?????

FNB

There were socialists on the Brainerd city council 100 years ago! Crosby had a communist mayor in the 30's. "Anarchists" was the attack term coined by those that stood to lose money and power if unions were recognized (you know, "those business owned thugs").

Young and inexperienced.

Mr. Stevenson may be young and inexperienced, but how to gain experience if not by doing and having help, support, and guidance along the way? And who knows, his "inexperience" may turn out to be innovation.

On a different topic- Remember to vote NOT for Mary Koep. Chip Borkenhagen is a much better candidate than that blowhard.
Remember when we had to foot the bill because Mary and her beloved husband couldn't sleep at night because of the sound of the road construction outside her house?
http://brainerddispatch.com/stories/050605/new_0506050023.shtml
Imagine if every person living downtown during the construction would have been as petty as Mary Koep is. Nothing she has ever done within memory served to help the Brainerd Lakes Area- she's a joke and an inept Council Member.

Hanging on to hate.

To Marsbar, Minnesnowda and the rest of you liberal dems, how sad and boring your life must be to keep holding on to something that happened 10 YEARS AGO! Doesn't your party promote rehabilitating and integrating criminals back into society? Jeff went before a judge, got his sentence and served it. No other incidents have happened since. Why are you so intent on crucifying this man to the end of time? The judicial system has forgiven him, why can't you? Is there something more personal in your attacks? It is time to put your hatred of Jeff to rest. Get a job, get a hobby, get a pet, just move on. 10 years of hate will eat a person up.

let go of attacks on TS and we will

Everytime someone brings up the false 'death threats' charge against Taylor Stevenson, a DFL'er will remind people that one of the Tea Party guys actually carried that out on the front page of the paper. It was real, not a passing comment to the wrong person.

Q: So if Jeff gets 'redemption' why not Taylor? He did not call people and threaten them.

Glad Jeff is serving on committees but that 'incident' does play into stability of character in a political race. Some of us are sick and tired of the front page attacks and antics of the present city council and we do not want to replace one loose cannon with someone with the potential to continue that. Why just Koep? What about Olson? both have served many years.

Nesheim and Goedker did a graceful exit to create room for new people. Bob and Mary seem incapable of stepping down. Both have embarassed us with their front page dramas.

Looking for replacements minus tempers and all the drama.

So telling the truth

about Tay is an attack? He lies in his propaganda mailings by claiming to be a teacher. Sorry, we have way more than enough liers in public office now, and adding him and his union pal would be a mistake.
