“Protecting the Interests of Children.” That’s the latest Catholic spin on why we should vote yes. There are a few problems with this:
*When you apply for a marriage license, you are never asked about your intentions to have, not have, or how you might raise, children.
*two senior citizens living in a nursing home without any possibility of having children, are allowed to get married.
*(In my line of work I’m well aware that) Social Services and child protection agencies are overwhelmed with cases of abuse and neglect between heterosexual parents.
*children can be adopted by single parents, and that is regulated in terms of background searching and home environment. But, people applying for marriage licenses ARE NOT required to authorize background searches.
Reality check: And while heterosexual couples who produce children are not regulated, adoptions are, and this study shows that gay couples can make excellent parents.
Please do not use an argument that doesn’t exist. It’s backhanded and insulting.....
