UMC votes no
The Brainerd Dispatch has been running an advertisement that includes the United Methodist Church in a list of church that support a yes vote on the marriage amendment.
This is incorrect information. The 2012 Minnesota United Methodist Conference voted 400 to 169 to support a no vote on this amendment. The resolution can be found in it entirety on the conference website.
Editor’s note: Ms. Duffield is referring to ad that was place with the Dispatch by the Minnesota Newspaper Association on behalf of Concern for Children of Almont, N.D.
“The lay and clergy members of Minnesota United Methodist Conference session this summer voted to express opposition to the so-called Marriage Amendment,” according to Victoria Rebeck, director of communications
Minnesota Conference of the United Methodist Church, in Minneapolis.
