Gazelka increased taxes

Gazelka increased taxes

Why are your property taxes higher? Because the last Republican-controlled legislature repealed the Homestead Credit. Paul Gazelka voted for that. Gazelka could have raised income taxes on the wealthiest, but he raised our property taxes instead.

Republicans try to blame increased property taxes on local governments, but that’s not true. Even without local tax increases, property taxes increased for farmers, small businesses and homeowners.

Minnesota Department of Revenue makes it clear that taking away the Homestead Credit caused increased property taxes, especially in poorer areas (www.revenue.state.mn.us/propertytax.) Except for property around some of our lakes, this district is definitely one of the poorer areas of Minnesota.

Paul Gazelka voted to remove Homestead Credit even though it was made clear in committees and in debates on the floor that it would hurt rural Minnesota most. If he truly understood this area, Gazelka should have listened and voted no. But Paul Gazelka voted yes.

It doesn’t make any difference if Gazelka didn’t know or if he didn’t care; the result is the same here in District 9. Let’s restore the Homestead Credit and remove anyone who voted to eliminate it. Elect someone who understands rural Minnesota and this district.

Elect Al Doty.

To follow your logic,

then John Ward is also responsible for raising our taxes.
He sponsored and passed a bill for an automatic levy for the school board to increase our property taxes for retired teachers pensions. Of which he is one, so thank you John Ward, another thing that you work tirelessly for -- to raise our taxes.
This should have been negotiated out and the retired teachers
should have given taxpayers a break. This is conflict of interest when you are sponsoring and voting for an automatic levy to raise taxes to cover your pension.

sadie, I'm glad

you mentioned that John Ward is a retired teacher that wants to collect more than one pension at a time. The local DFL says that's one of the crimes that Chip Cravaack is guilty of.

1995-2004 equals less than 30

1995-2004 equals less than 30 years.

Also, it was Pawlenty that drove our property taxes up with his 'no new tax fraud'. Mine went up 36.5% one year because of his campaigning.

Well said Michele Caron of Little Falls MN !

Has a group of Legislators in MN ever had a track record as bad as the current group we have ? Gazelka is certainly one of the worst.

Elimination of the Homestead Tax Credit was really a poor idea promoted by the Grifters Out of control Party ( GOP).

Good Luck Al Doty !!

I am fine

With higher property taxes. That means I am paying my money for local services. Why are high state taxes fine, but higher property taxes so bad? Why should people who don't live in an area have to pay for our police, fire dept, schools etc? I would rather pay less for Mpls police, and more for my own. I just don't get why that is so bad?

Homestead Tax Credit and Little Johnny Ward

The state eliminated the Homestead Tax Credit with good intentions. The individual counties , cities, school districts, etc. are the ones that found the loophole and raised your taxes. It makes no difference how conservative the state legislature is when the rest of the darn state is DFL liberal and always finds a way around the legislature. As for Little Johnny, he has been abusing the citizens of CWC for over 6 years now. That includes Veterans, Disabled/Handicapped people, and the rest of the taxpayers and businesses. It's only now that the citizens of CWC are figuring him out. All I can say is you now have a chance to get rid of the liar/scammer for good. VOTE CHRIS KELLETT and show little johnny the door. In the television debates the other night, he spent more time studdering than he did talking. To the citizens of the Brainerd area, little johnny has ripped you off long enough. Vote him out.

Taxes and public service

Just think if we took away all the government services paid for by taxes.
It would be chaos in our communities.
Thank you, John for all you do. There are many people who appreciate you.

HS Diploma-That's a good thing

Hey Brainnews, Do you have a High School Diploma. Does your party know you are on the loose. Have you been on government assistance all your life. Did the government pay for your computer. If you take away all the government services, paid for by taxes a lot of government unions would go away. Thats a good thing. A lot of government employees would be laid off. That's another good thing. A lot of currently unemployed people that really want to work, would have jobs. That's a good thing. Taxes would go down. That's a good thing. You would probably be forced to get a job. That's a good thing. A lot of DFLrs would be wishing they had voted conservative. That's another good thing. Still want to vote for Little Johnny, That's a bad thing unless he shares his government pension with you. That's a good thing for you. Ya Think. That's a lot of good things just for doing away with government services. And I know nothing, RIGHT. I'll take that RIGHT. PS: that means the welfare office would have to close. That's another good thing. That would leave another vacant building for a small business to move into and start up. That's a good thing. Bye Bye

Marsbar or Earthy or Snowda or whoever

As long as he keeps writing for her, she's the winner. Little Johnny should try it. I'm sorry, there aren't any liberals smart enough to write anything intelligent. You lose again and so does Little Johnny. Bye the way, you're not jealous about DW, are you. Please stop scaring him. He's a nice guy. And nice guys know winners when they see them.

what our taxes do for us

If our house was on fire, the fire dept would be there. If we cross a bridge, drive on a well paved road to get to work, taxes pay for that. If our children grow up to go on to college, thank our taxes that pay for our schools. Our police keep us safe--taxes. Taxes help pay for our clean rives, streams and lakes. Our ATV trails, bike trails and walking trails are kept up by taxes. I could go on and on. We need taxes in a civilized society. Rep Ward has helped our communities and represented us well. He has respect for all people and is highly revered in the legislature by both sides of the aisle.
