As a senator on the Northwestern College student government, I and the other members of our body seek to engage the students of Northwestern in the world to represent Christ. We stand on the principles provided to us in the Bible, which has brought us unanimously to this resolution:
“In light of the proposed marriage amendment on the ballot Nov. 6, Northwestern College student government officially declares their full support of the biblical definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.” –

Add commentbible has many perspectives on marriage
The bible has many definitions.....including ones that embrace polygamy. Does that mean the US should allow multiple marriages?
Which Bible Verses?
Which bible verses, excluding the Old Testament, refers to marriage as being only between one man and one woman? Inquiring minds want to know.
multiple marriages?
... just one provides me with my minimum daily requirement of stress, no thanks.
Didn't King Solomon have like
Didn't King Solomon have like a ton of wives and another ton of concubines?
But Isaac, in all
But Isaac, in all seriousness. You are talking about the "Biblical definition of marriage" That's all fine and dandy. But keep the church separated from the state. We all know what happened to people when they said that the earth was round and people like you rounded them up and burned them at the stake for blasphemy.
@ Mav
To all who oppose this amendment using the argument that separation of church and state must be preserved - the proposed amendment is purely civil/state and has nothing to do with church/religion. The proposed amendment says that the STATE will recognize and certify only unions between a man and a woman. This amendment in no way dictates what a church may do in a religious ceremony. Churches would still be able to conduct religious ceremonies recognizing the commitments of same sex couples; the STATE would simply not recognize those unions.
Argue all you want yes and no, just don't use the "separation" banner as your rationale.
Perhaps you "Bible Scholars" would like to tell me...
...how well those polygamous marriages in the Bible worked out. Seems to me most of them were flat out disasters with all sorts of animosity between children of different mothers. But if you're going to insist on bringing the Bible into it, which I argue is ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY to argue the importance of the institution of marriage between one man and one woman, please show me a New Testament example of two dudes or two chicks having their homosexual relationship blessed by Jesus. I'm sure with all your deep theological background you'll be back to me in no time.

Hi Isaac: I commend you and
Hi Isaac:
I commend you and your fellow students at Northwestern.
Those examples in the Bible which the preceding posters are referring to---only serve to point out that throughout the history of man, woman and marriage--- there have been those who attempted to make marriage serve their particular purpose---just as some people have always attempted to make governments or their positions of power--- serve their purpose. Today, the same-sex agenda is attempting to make marriage serve their purpose.
As everyone can plainly see today--- all those other attempts to deviate from what is fundamental didn't work---marriage has been back on the right track for quite some time---"beween a man and a woman."
My thanks to you and the Northwestern students who are the future leaders of this nation.
