Gazelka's values don't match ours

Posted: September 27, 2012 - 4:43pm

Let’s end the Republican pro-life spin right now. Paul Gazelka’s literature (paid for by his own campaign committee) says he’s 100 percent pro-life. MCCL says Gazelka had a 93 percent pro-life voting record in 2011.

They can’t both be telling the truth. Gazelka broke his promise to MCCL to support all their legislation. Republican letter writers can’t change that, so let’s quit pretending 93 percent is really 100 percent, and move on to other items Republicans don’t want us to know.

They don’t want us to know Gazelka moved about four months ago just to run in District 9 instead of where he was living. He’s not one of us in one of the poorest areas of Minnesota.

Voters should also know Gazelka signed the no new taxes pledge (www.atr.org/taxpayer-protection-pledge). Guess his promise was meant only for the richest Minnesotans, because my property taxes went up, and so did most others in rural Minnesota. Gazelka voted to do that.

More broken promises. More proof Gazelka is not one of us.

Gazelka’s literature also claims Minnesota has a $1 billion surplus. We know the Republicans borrowed, and just pushed the debt off on the next legislature. There’s no surplus.

Gazelka’s values don’t match ours.

Spinners

Whatever works, the right will just spin it to get their candidate elected. Know a man by his actions.

And what is Gazelka's opponent's pro-life record?

Seriously, I don't know who you think you're fooling. Conservatives are much smarter than you think.

And then we have Bachmann, the genius in Minnesota.

And Steven King, Iowa's Mensa wannabe.
Don't forget Louis Gohmert, "the terror babies" theorist.

We could go on and on.

Social Conservatives...Why 2012 matters...

Front Page News...
Todd Akin Pains GOP...
Too many internet articles to post on the subject...

Paul Gazelka is the subject of this post...
I believe Paul is a hard working, honest, and down to earth guy...

However, representation in the Minnesota Senate requires an obligation to all the citizens of the new district...

I'm not sure Paul is committed to this goal...
His signature to the Grover Norquist Pledge is bothersome...
Why sign something to an individual, when the electorate of the region you're running for office matters more???

Grover on 60 minutes, about a month ago, said this was an obligation to the taxpayers...Yet, Grover clapped his hands in glee at the end...Smirking as well...

Seems it's a commitment to Grover, and not the constituents Paul would be elected to serve...

I cannot vote in Paul's new district...

The voters will, and hopefully, will make an informed choice on who is their representative and has the district's interests at heart...

So far, Paul is not convincing...
Grover Norquist is one reason why...

"However, representation in the Minnesota Senate requires an obligation to all the citizens"

If this is true, and you seem to know what the breakdown is in the district on this issue, please let us know how people feel about it. I'm curious.

Twice Gazelka has said on TV

Twice Gazelka has said on TV that he didn't understand a bill that he voted for or authored.

If he didn't understand what he was voting for why didn't he at least ask someone to explain it to him before he put our stamp of approval on the bill through his vote as our elected representative?

Gee, Snowda, isn't Gazelka running against Doty"

According to the latest MCCL survey, Doty didn't even respond to MCCL's questions. Usually that means a candidate doesn't share the pro-life point of view. Also, there's no voting rating for him, so I can't confirm your claim that he's always had a 100% pro-life voting record.

Please share your source for your claims because I'm not finding it at MCCL. In this particular case, I'd be greatly relieved to find out you were actually correct in your assertions.

Do not insult us by saying

Do not insult us by saying that John Ward represents everyone is his district. Oberstar never did and neither would
Doty. Just because you think they may represent you does not mean we think we are represented.

If this is about Gazelka, I don't think he is in my district.
But, how many people vote using the MCCl survey for guidance?

First what does the writer mean by "our values"? Another overused term that only means something to the writer.
News flash- Todd Akin is not running in MN

since you asked

http://www.mccl.org/page.aspx?pid=857
Click on each year. 2007-2010, Doty= 100%
Click on 2011. Gazelka = 93%.
Gazelka’s lit says “100% prolife” on it.
Who’s telling the truth, Gazelka or the MCCL?

A few years ago I did see one of those surveys.
They asked a whole bunch of unrelated questions,
the one that floored me was on Instant Runoff Voting.

Paul Koering said the MCCL are bullies. They would
crowd into his office and insist on how he voted.

The candidate that I saw the survey from shredded it.
He said he would not be 'owned' by ANY special interest group, liberal or conservative.

Yeah right!

You expect me to believe that MCCL is a bigger bully than AFSCME? Not likely.

As for Doty not responding, I can only interpret that to mean that he wants to play both sides of this issue, which I don't respect. He wants pro-aborts to think he's on their side while he claims pro-life credentials. BTW, it's impossible to compare these different years because they were voting for different legislation and because Doty thinks he's either too good or too clever to answer the survey questions, there's no way to get a read on whether he would have voted the same way as Gazelka.

Based on the bills where Gazelka did not vote the pro-life line (though he didn't oppose them either) it looks like it may have not been a clear cut pro-life bill (in other words, it combined cloning with higher education funding). BTW, there were two pro-life bills in 2007 that Doty did not vote on, so perhaps he's giving himself more pro-life credentials than he deserves when he gave himself a 100% rating.

When Doty has the guts to go public with his beliefs with MCCL, as Gazelka did with 100% correct answers, I'll consider him a viable candidate. Until then, he's untrustworthy.

"Gazelle ka" a political animal who lacks courage

after putting his finger to the wind, "Gazelle ka" leaps from one safe political position to another protecting the RINOs and the ruling class among us. He reminds me of the lion in the Wizard of Oz

Seems nothing has changed

I am 64 years old and, to me at least, it seems that nothing has changed in regard to politics during my lifetime. One side blames the other, both sides promise to fix everything if we will just elect them. Most running for whatever office seem to promise the sky and tell people what it is the people seem to want to hear to get elected. Although it seems that whether it is truth or not is less important than getting elected. I am still waiting by the way for the heaven on Earth they seem to promise everytime election time comes around. Seems that there has always been some boogy man threat that we needed to be afraid of.
Seems like no matter who is in the White House, every president has been the last president, who would suspend the next election and become a dictator. Seems like every or nearly every President has been called the "Anti-Christ".
Since I can remember people and their politics have not changed. Sometimes I wonder if the politicians from both sides ever get together behind closed doors and laugh at the rest of us for being so gullible into getting all worked up about politics when they secretly know it will be business as usual no matter which side gets elected???
