As a former resident of Baxter, I can attest to the chronic problem of leaf burning that occurs in Baxter on a regular basis. This is not a one-day, three-hour issue! This involves many residents burning whenever it is convenient for them. In addition to the chronic burning, residents would have campfires that they did not monitor and the fires would smolder all night long. Residents do not have motor vehicles idling near their homes for 3 hours, every day. And they have no input on pollution from businesses that may, temporarily, be polluting the areas near them. However, they do have a voice in ensuring that their neighborhood is a healthy one. Baxter offers a free dumpsite for leaves. I would have gladly helped any neighbor with raking their leaves or hiring a teen to do this to avoid burning the leaves. Our country has become one beset with asthma/allergy issues! This is serious and if we truly care about one another as neighbors, we will do what we can to make sure we can all breathe/live in a healthy environment!

Opening night of the top rated movie.
Crowded theater.
Standing room only. Lucky you got the seat you did.
A man and woman sit down right in front of you REEKING of the perfume and aftershave they bathed in.
I can't kick back and burn leaves in my yard after I raked it all up paid a buck for a burn permit?
I can't enjoy the smell and the memories that come with the smell of burning leaves?
But I have to endure the stench of perfume and after shave?
Leaves are natural. Burning leaves has been around a lot longer than Polo cologne and White Shoulders perfume...
I'm glad ...
... that Ms. Backberg has moved on to a sterile environment free of the horrible pollution in Baxter. Now let the rest of us enjoy ALL the sights and smells of fall, and as NanLee reminds us, the memories of a simpler, politically incorrect, better era.
Former resident?
Must be a liberal... Who else would write into the paper to complain about something that takes place in a town you don't even live in anymore.
LOL
Must you turn everything into a political issue?
You're starting to sound like F&B.
Only difference is I haven't blocked him yet.
When you all live together, you all need to realize that what
you do, affects everyone else. Burning leaves does smell nice, but to your neighbor with lung problems, they dont even have to leave the house to be hit with a severe and life threatening asthma attack from your burning leaves.
Is it really that important for you to burn them, when you know that other peoples lives are threatened? Why not find a place where all the people that want to burn can, and where it doesnt affect the health of your neighbors?
My neighbor burned leaves and debris all the time.
So I did something radical, I went over and Talked to them. Explained my wife have lung problems and all I would like is to be informed so we could shut the windows. Nice, nieghborly, solved the problem, and both sides were happy.
You're starting to sound
like minnesnowda, Nan.
