Stand corrected
Mr. Hansen, I enjoy your column. This morning’s (Monday) column, however, contains an error in fact that I thought I should bring to your attention, if others haven’t already. Your first paragraph states, “U.S. Labor Department reports that 4,000 jobless claims were filed for the period ending Aug. 18.” That is inaccurate. The actual number filed was reported to be 372,000 which was a 4,000 increase over the week before. The headline indicates that there was an increase “for a second week in a row,” but for someone who doesn’t follow the actual number of weekly claims they could conclude from your lead paragraph that only 4,000 claims were filed last week and that’s just a small fraction of the total number of claims that were made.
Keep up the good work.
