The Lakes Area Music Festival just completed an exciting and successful fourth season, presenting world-class classical music in the Brainerd lakes area.
The season opened with our community concert, which featured some of the very talented instrumental and vocal musicians in the area.
The next six concerts featured over 75 musicians from around the world: professionals from America’s best orchestras and students from top music conservatories.
These musicians were housed in private homes and their meals were prepared and served by volunteers; more than 220 members of this community shared their time and talent in a variety of volunteer positions.
The lakes community also generously gave financial support to the festival. Our concerts are given at zero cost to attendees, and only 15 percent of this year’s budget was covered by grants. Clearly, we would not exist without our sponsors, advertisers, and donors. On Aug. 18, the night before our final concert, an anonymous angel came forward. By matching the next day’s concert donations, they helped us raise almost a third of our budget in one night. All of this comes from the inspiring goodwill of lakes area individuals and organizations.
We hope our music has touched the hearts of our audience, just as your support touches our musicians, staff, and board. In every concert a glow of positive energy emanated from performers to the audience and back again, and our visiting musicians, some of the greatest young talent this country has to offer, expressed their goodbyes along with hopes to return. They love to make music, of course, but it is your kindness, support, and gracious hospitality that keeps them coming back. We are proud to call the Brainerd lakes area our home, and we can’t wait to celebrate our fifth season with you in 2013.
