Medical bill collector ban
Mr. Hansen, upon reading the recent editorial on the Minnesota ban of bill collecting giant Accretive Health, I think we are looking through opposite ends of the same telescope.
I don’t believe anybody “drove” Accretive “out of business.” They were at the wheel of their own bus speeding down the highway of abusive business tactics when they went over the cliff.
Some people in our state were the victims of Accretive. The regulations, that most business honor, and were put in place to protect us ought, not to be blamed for the alleged loss of 100 jobs here.
The blame for jeopardizing jobs, I feel, lies surely at the feet of Accretive for their reckless and “unacceptable if not illegal” business techniques.

That's the problem with some of our capitalists today. They seem to think that the ONLY thing that matters is money. Sound business principles don't matter. How people are treated doesn't matter. If you have to hurt people it doesn't matter as long as you get the cash and pay the shareholders.
Get the money by any means possible and if anyone points out the flaws attack them for being "big government destroying jobs".
Do we really want that unregulated cold blooded cash at any cost mindset in charge of the United States?
If we don't we'd better show that we don't in November because that is what the GOP is offering.
Right, and Obama and the left aren't greedy...
...this is where you lose credibility, Fish.
I actually agree that morality should play a role not just in business, but in everything we do. What I disagree on is that it isn't greedy to covet other people's things, and that's the keystone of the Democratic party. Also, I think you will search in vain for anything Romney has done that violates any laws or common business practices used by the right and left alike. Furthermore, he certainly seems to give a much larger percentage of his income to charity than Obama or Biden.
Credibility in Question ? Really !
I guess we will never know how charitable the vulture capitialist actually is , since only his " secret " tax returns would actually show if he follows the Mormons philosophy of donating 20 to 25% of your annual net income to the LDS church.
Lori Swanson deserves a great deal of credit for following up with these cut throat yahoos and chasing them out of our state ,as well as exposing them for what they are. Guess some folks defintion of " common business practices" needs to be slightly adjusted.
Mormons do many good things...
Captain. I'm perfectly happy with the fact Accretive had its hand slapped. However, I don't see giving Swanson huge credit for doing something that was a no-brainer. It's kind of like giving Obama a high five for finally letting the seals take out Osama.
yep captron, those tax returns are hidden
For starters, here is the law...
Individual income tax returns — including those of public figures — are private information, protected by law from unauthorized disclosure. Indeed, the Internal Revenue Service is barred from releasing any taxpayer information whatsoever, except to authorized agencies and individuals.
Like all other citizens, U.S. presidents enjoy this protection of their privacy. Since the early 1970s, however, most presidents have chosen to release their returns publicly.
You will never find them for Romney, however. I mean a simple google search will only find the 2010 and 2011 tax return for Mr. and Mrs. Romney. Man, I cant believe they hide them so well.
The "tradition" of presidential candidates releasing their taxes began in the 70's. Wow what a long lasting tradition.
Why not come up with a new argument?
How about Obama's college transcripts? How about his college records?
Not saying they will or will not prove anything, but since legally Romney's tax returns are none of your business and since Obama's college records are none of mine, how about we call it a wash and move on to the important issues, such as the economy, national debt, health care, etc. You know the things that will actually change this nation for the better.
Just because it's legal doesn't make it right!
Just because I could go to a friend in a failing business and prod him into borrowing the max from creditors, and suppliers. Extracting the cash, splitting the loot and then high tailing it out of town. I couldn't and wouldn't do it and neither would the majority of you. Why are we even discussing electing someone willing to twist our economic system in this way and then be so pius as to argue that it's ok because they can get away with it!
Mayor Rahm Emanuel stands by Accretive Health
Mayor urges Minnesota attorney general to stop publicly prosecuting the firm. While you liberal twinkies try and blame the Republicans, it was one of your own that tried Chicago style corruption to get Accretive off the hook!!
At least the democrats are
At least the democrats are trying to force some kind of regulations on the banksters past the Party of NO!
Unless we get 100% public financing of elections I don't see much hope for any meaningful change.
Randall
This President is twisting the economic system because
he doesn't understand it. Giving stimulus money to Democrat donors and friends and they then go bankrupt
or take the company overseas.
Interesting way to point out the inefficiencies of this administration.
sadie, quit making sense.
They dont understand that, hence me getting one thumbs down once again for facts based on law of the land.
Its Always Best to Listen to Nobel Prize Winning Economists
And those in a position to actually have a positive impact on situations.
Healthcare reform and the actual payment of charges for services rendered is certainly a complicated process best left to folks who are " Experts in the Field '" as opposed to those individuals who are clueless....
Nobel Winning Economists? Is that like a person who won
the Nobel Prize for Peace because he's black, or because he was in office for a couple of months? Wonder if they are asking for it back! And fish, is that the same dems who bailed out Goldman Sachs?
