For the record

With all due respect to the gentleman from Pillager who makes a habit of getting his incorrect email forwards published by the Dispatch, his most recent letter (‘Obama-nomics’, Aug. 5,) must be exposed for the fraud that it is.

The letter stated the national debt has doubled under Obama’s term. What it doesn’t say is how this came to be: 1. The cost of buying votes of the elderly through the passage of the Medicare Plan B bill, passed with Republican approval and signed into law during President Bush’s tenure; 2. the tab of the conflict in Iraq (between $3-4 trillion) being put on the books instead of continually sweeping it under the rug; 3. the cost of TARP, passed during President Bush’s term; and 4. an inherited conflict on Afghanistan that couldn’t be stopped on a dime. But let us also not forget that the economy was on the brink of collapse in 2008. When job losses were in the hundreds of thousands each month (and a 60 year record of 2.6 million for 2008), it should come as no surprise that president Obama tried to implement some measures to stop the hemorrhaging, lest he be remembered as being the Herbert Hoover of his generation.

These actions aren’t free. And controversial as the stimulus was, the economy has slowly rebounded, which is a far healthier position than the precipice of January 2009.

I don’t recall much criticism when the bulk of the aforementioned expenses were implemented pre-Obama.

Where was the Tea Party during all this? In fact, it was another Republican (Reagan) who declared the deficit (which leads to the debt) “is big enough to take care of itself.” Where was the concern, then? Isn’t it just as concerning that any hint of a tax increase to help alleviate the annual deficits, even when countered 10:1 with spending cuts is suggested, prominent Republicans have scoffed?

The GOP will always oppose

The GOP will always oppose any attempt to shut off the transfer of wealth to the wealthy.

They seem intent on returning us to the days of the robber barons. And now with the treasonous Citizen's United ruling by the cons on the supreme court those days are just around the corner.

A pair of robber barons are pouring millions of dollars into corrupting elections all over the country thanks to the Supreme Court Five.

At least the Tea Party

still allows you communists to comment without attacking you personally. That's even though you have insurgents rigging the comment section at the BDD. Have a nice night, sir.

Dan nails it

and Art from Pillager ??

Dispatch - when his letters come in please do fact check before publishing them.

Art's letters are a public joke now. Only some people will believe them despite the misinformation. That's the sad part.

Why do you attack Art for writing a letter?

If someone wanted to, they could go through this letter and
fact check and find misinformation and he could be the public joke along with Art (I know neither one).
But why whine about either letter?

Look at the debt number on the front page of the paper's
site and wonder what we are going to do about it?
What good can it do to pick on one writer or another when
we are leaving the huge debt for our children and grandchildren?

I and others have been upset about spending for years, but
seem to be in the minority and get accused of wanting people to starve etc.

wrong facts

I know some writers who used to be called for documentation of their facts. Since the editor changed, that is not happening any longer.

The truth is that it is illegal to 'publish' something written by someone else. Art is copying e mail forwards that have been proven to contain non-factual information.

That should be against the paper's policy to take those.

Hmmm, you mean checking facts like

Harry Reid “So, the word’s out that he (Mitt Romney) hasn’t paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn’t,”.

So if he would have checked the facts he would have found the Mitt Romney has paid $8.2 million in taxes the last two years.

Mitt Romney has been running for president for the last six years, is Harry Reid that stupid to think that Romney would make a slip up like that?

lifelong, its like the Romney plan for taxes

Obama says Romneys plan is this and going to cost middle class $2000 a year, even though Romney has not mentioned ANYTHING as a plan, it is gospel.

You lefties mean facts like that?

This comes right off Romneys website, I hope its ok to do this, but here it is,

• Make a permanent, across-the-board 20 percent cut in marginal rates
• Maintain current tax rates on interest, dividends and capital gains
• Eliminate taxes for taxpayers with adjusted gross income below $200,000 on interest, dividends and capital gains
• Eliminate the death tax
• Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax

NO WHERE DOES IT SAY TAX INCREASE. That is a figment of the anointed ones mind.

Romney Pays Taxes?

When Romney states that he has paid alot of taxes, does he say "Income Taxes"? No, he just says "Taxes".

And what happened to his investments in 2008 and 2009? Weren't they losses that could be used to reduce his "Income Taxes"?

Romney is hiding something and we all know it. The system is rigged in his favor and he does not want "you people" to know it.

Harry Reid Jr.

Romneyhood could be funny if you knew the story of
Robinhood. I don't have time to look it up, but I think
he steals from government and gives to the poor or his
girl friend.

As for the losses. Breaking news, you can take a loss
on your tax return. It is not hiding something or illegal.

If you have a grudge or don't like it why not advocate for
a flat tax with no deductions. I favor that and have for years.

Some people could use a primer on the 71,000 pages (and growing) of Federal tax law.

Tax the rich til there is nothing left including jobs, and give to the worthless, the chronic welfare families, the people who choose not to work, the people who are here illegally, etc...

Yep, that sounds like sound plan

Massive Debt

Dan, you can paint the picture any way you like to blame the other party for this countries massive debt, bottom line is everyone has had a hand in this mess. Our elected officials both Rep. and Dem. need to wake up and smell the roses before it's to late.
According to fiscal fact check we are borrowing 36 cents on every dollar paid out. Could you operate your household this way?
There is plenty of blame to go around, some of which rests with an American public that won't accept cuts in the largest categories of public spending, and also resists tax increases on anybody but "the rich."

It started funding 2 wars and cutting taxes at the same time

during the GWB 2 terms, this massive debt.

The seniors Prescription Drug Plan (which was good, but also unfunded and not calculated right and why no bids, give everything to the drug companies!?)

WJC left GWB a surplus. That vanished overnight.

Then the housing crisis and recession hits.

Did anyone think Obama could turn things around in a few years? Like a family trying to get out of debt, this will take some time to dig out of.

Snow

Just give a little consideration to 9/11/01 when blaming Bush.
The terrorists wanted to destroy our economic system.
He made mistakes, of course, but he did the best he could
at the time. Which is what you are saying about Obama.

Obama did say that if he didn't get it turned around he should
be a one term President. No excuses, when you run for President - you begin your Presidency on the day you are
sworn in. None of this " we didn't know how bad it was" business. That only proves to people that he was not prepared and didn't have the right people around him.
He has to put his big boy pants on.

Jobs and the country's economic stability is the most important thing and the rest is just noise to avoid the issues.
Blaming others doesn't help.

Unlike Obamacare, I understand Medicare Part D came in...

...under what the CBO estimated it would cost. That's a good program by my estimation. And if Obama was so convinced pulling our troops out of the Middle East was the right thing to do, why hasn't he done it?

What disturbs me most about the calls for tax increases is that the people who are calling for them have no intention of cutting spending. No, they are calling for INCREASED spending. You can't tax people at a high enough rate to satisfy the people in Congress who are addicted to OPM.

Budgets Results .....

Results of the budgets never show up until years after the President has left office. We need a President who worries about the budget even after he is gone.

Obama added over $200 billion to the 2009 budget. So that entire budget does not belong to Bush. And the last time I checked, there was an uncontrolled liberal house and senate without a budget that spent wildly that Bush gets the blame for, or did you forget that very IMPORTANT fact?

Fair warning to the Dispatch:

When you get an email that says Congress doesn't have to repay their kids' college loans, check with factcheck.org. That is just a Dick Morris on Hannity pile of poo that has been circulating for awhile.

Do your own fact checking

What do you mean by Congress doesn't have to repay their
kids college loans"? You mean all 535 members of congress
don't have to pay the college loans? Interesting, I haven't heard of that, of course, you can look it up yourself instead
of depending on any fact check org. Then you will know
for sure. I don't exactly trust any of them. I like to read
for myself.

Where do you get your email from? That Dick Morris/Hannity
program was in January 2011. I didn't hear the program that
you apparently listened to and remembered for over a year.
If you read the fact checker that you quoted, employees of the executive branch, congress, and Dept. of education do
enjoy a loan repayment program with a cap of $40,000 to$60,000.
I'm concerned that somehow you have access to this Art person's computer and his email. How you know what emails he gets and who they are from should call for an investigation. You seem a bit too familiar with Arts computer.

The sad part about this letter, is it is a personal attack

at someone who wrote in the Open Forum, using the Open Forum as his personal platform. The Dispatch should have asked him to rewrite the letter, as personal attacks are against the rules. But hey, when does this paper follow their own rules??
