"And it’s also untrue — as claimed in a graphic widely circulated by email and in social media postings — that the debt has increased more under Obama than under all previous 43 presidents combined. In fact, as of Jan. 31, 2012, the rise under Obama had yet to surpass the rise under his predecessor, George W. Bush."
So, another lie from the conservatives. Why do they fall for this stuff?
Most of that Obama debt is the Bush trillion dollar tax cut and the Bush multi trillion Iraq invasion.
Digging out of the Bush hole will take two terms which it now appears that Obama will get.
...read the factcheck and Obama has added close to $5 trillion in less than four years when you compare the public debt at the end of Bush's term to the current public debt as listed by the U.S. treasury.
Are you seriously going to pretend like that's thrifty? Because let's not forget, the mandatory entitlements are also growing at breakneck pace and the current national debt in total is darn close to $16 trillion.
facts?? who needs those pesky facts when you are minnesnowda?
Yes the left will continue to pretend that it's Bush's fault and not their's and their evil Obama-Man.
In one of your recent e-mails you stated something about Chip Cravaack having a girlfriend. In fact, you even said it was "rumored." Are you sure you want to disparage Mr. Becker's use of "facts?"
I'll agree that Art Becker may be fact challenged if you agree that snowda is a small-town gossip.
The real question isn't how much debt has Obama added, it's what do you want to cut from the budget? The GOP doesn't want to cut defense spending, which is about 20 percent of the budget Obama inherited. The other big items are social security and medicare, which both Obama and Bush inherited. Raise you hand if you're willing to accept huge cuts to SS and medicare so billionaires can get even bigger tax cuts while the rest of us see our taxes go up. How about veteran's benefits...want to cut them? How about pensions for federal workers? Farm subsidies? Highways? Unemployment benefits for people who are out of work through no fault of their own? What would you cut? Let's replace the partisan rage with a thoughtful discussion.
Lots of debt is great as long as its spent on defense. Remember, any day now trickle down economics are going to kick in as long as we protect that 2% of the population who are the Job Creators , which may be Unfourtuate for the other 98% of us." Lets just get a clean sheet of paper and start all over again"
Please get out and vote in Nov. before a select few can take that right away , because they dont think clearly and seem to refuse to believe basic FACTS.
If you want to make the tax code fairer, get rid of corporate taxes and tax dividends that are passed through at regular income tax rates. Next, get rid of all the deductions and credits. Then we'll have a progressive tax structure and the rich will always pay a higher percentage of their income than the poor.
And Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are going to break us. None of the money taken from us for the last 60+ years was held in trust, it was all spent (or invested, as the lefties like to say). Now we have massive obligations and nothing to draw from but current payroll deductions. We cannot do it and the sooner we acknowledge that sad fact, the sooner we can start backing away from the fiscal cliff for which we're heading
Chip, I know your on vacation for the next 5 weeks , however can you reform the ENTIRE Tax Code of the USA before the end of this year so , I can continue to believe I live in a fantasy world. "Cant we just start over with a clean sheet of paper "? I know your focused on other important issues important especially to the Tea Party crowd , however if you dont compromise pretty quick some liberal told me my taxes are going back to what they were a while back ,and the economic recovery may be impacted. Help Me Chip !
Bush and the GOP had control of the government. So where is the tax reform? Where are the budget cuts, especially to entitlements, pork legislation and defense? Where are the improvements to making social security and Medicare better and more stable? Where are the health care improvements?
Where is the outstanding economy they brought us?
And they didn't have the enormous blocking in Congress with filibusters and tea pot folks.
Public jobs increased; private sector jobs decreased.
Just saying, we've been there, and it didn't work out so well.
For the last two years, restriction is the pattern we see from the GOP. Spending for them to meet in all states and Washington to restrict women's rights and to de-restrict corporations.
The GOP wasn't worried about the fiscal cliff when they were in charge.
The Republicans tried to scare the American Middle Class by telling us that if Obama Care was enacted it would lead to rationing of health care and "Death Panels". I had a friend die that enactment didn't come soon enough for thanks to foot dragging and inaction. He had a lot of pride, a small family two minimum wage jobs, no health insurance and he paid more in taxes than Mitt Romney. The Republican death panel did it's job "no money, no health care. Congratulations Republicans. Enjoy your tax breaks.
Growing up, I don't ever recall Ronald Reagan complaining, whining and crying about the mess Jimmy Carter left him.
Yet in today's society no one ever takes responsiblity for their actions - its always someone elses fault.
Great role model BO.
BTW - the Democrats are going on 3 plus years and haven't passed a budget yet.

Add commentThe debt is "for the children"
But, Art, don't you know that all this is the fault of George Bush and forever will be.
I don't know about the numbers, but Mr. Obama has
only added debt to our children and grandchildren.
Cutting spending is not an option to him.
Another False e-mail
Mr. Becker again publishes another one of his false emails.

Art is gullible.
And not likely to change or admit he got taken again.
And probably not likely to be online. If he is, the public will wait a long time for a retraction.
facts?? who needs those pesky facts when you are Art Becker
Add one more to the pile of GOP e mails that are wrong wrong wrong.......
is there anyone at the Dispatch that checks this guy?
There should be a red alert when he sends in something.

So what's the solution?

There is a difference.
Thanks for repeating it for me by the way, in case anyone missed it. I got it from a good source but I cannot document it.

Democrats are a joke...

You and Harry Reid make such a nice couple.
I heard the tooth fairy may not be real
and I can't prove that, either
but I suspect it's true.
