Government pensions

Posted: July 6, 2012 - 4:07pm

I find it ironic and more than a bit hypocritical when those who have worked their entire adult life for the federal (big) government, and are now reaping the benefits of a federal pension and health care, now make a call to support policies that limit big government.

Are they willing to give up those retirement benefits as part of the solution to federal spending? If not, now that they have theirs, they shouldn’t cast stones in glass houses.

Some people cannot be explained , do 1 thing ,say another

Classic example I ran into was a relative who is a WWII era veteran that served in the Navy in the Pacific at the end of the war. He was one of thousands of sailors brought up on the desks of ships close to nuclear blasts for medical science reasons ,when radiation exposure was being studied by the war dept. Of the 10s of thousands of veterans who sought help from the VA for all sorts of radiation related serious medical problems nothing happened until Feb of 2009 ,after 90% + had passed on , and we elected a president who worked with a new VA person to get the few surviving veterans a $ 800 month disability check for the rest of their lives.
So my cousin waited about 60 years for VA action , when I asked him if he was pleased Barrack Obama took care of the long over due situation after the president had been in office just a few months, his reply was a racial slur. Moral of the story ,some times there is no telling why people dont care to understand the truth about whats really going on or just happened and why. Or in this specific case his local small town Congressional Representative is Steve King who represents the entire Western slice of Iowa constantly bad mouths the president. Steve King is Iowas Michelle Bachmann . Any chance either Congessional Rep. get to speak ,its negative double speak that creates gridlock ,not progress.

Sad, captron,

I know folks just like him.

King is facing redistricting. Maybe he will be out. Or not.

Atomic test veterans radiation exposure

About 210,000 US military personnel participated in nuclear tests from 1946 to the test ban in 1963. Probably the most famous was operation CROSSROADS at Bikini Atoll in 1946 when a large fleet of surplus ships was exposed to Able(air burst) and Baker(underwater) 20kt blasts. 30,000 navy personnel participated, but only animals, NO people, were aboard the target ships. Many of the seaman did go aboard the surviving ships after in a rather poorly monitored operation.
Short term exposure was supposed to be limited to about twice the level allowed nuclear workers today, but the dosimeters worn did not detect plutonium radiation.
In 1996 an extensive test was conducted of the CROSSROADS survivors, comparing them to an equal number of chosen non participants. A slight increase in mortality among those who were at CROSSROADS was detected, but no increase from cancer. Similar results were obtained in studies from other bomb tests and on survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I won't bore you with more detail.

'when I asked him if he was

'when I asked him if he was pleased Barrack Obama took care of the long over due situation after the president had been in office just a few months, his reply was a racial slur.'

You should now ask your relative if he or she is pleased to have gays running loose in all branches of the service. Showers and sleeping quarters are pretty tight on most ships.
