My name is Robin Hensel of Little Falls, Minn. The following letter was written and sent to the two co-city administrators for city of Little Falls. I am deeply troubled that the public hearing on the new sign ordinance in Little Falls has been scheduled just prior to a major holiday. Sign ordinances are extremely important in every city because of the right to free speech. My right of free speech was denied, the day I had to remove my signs:
To: “Jerry Lochner and Lori Kasella.
I request that the public hearing for the new sign ordinance, be moved to Monday, July 9, 2012, 6:30 p.m. instead of Monday, July 2, 2012. The date you chose is right before a major holiday, when many residents travel, or have plans with family. It is not fair to hold this meeting when only a small portion of Little Falls residents will be able to attend. Because the holiday falls in the middle of the week, some residents will likely take the whole week off, or the first half to enjoy the Fourth of July. It seems as though the city, to suit its own interest, has purposely chosen this date in an effort to bury this important meeting, in a direct attempt to keep the majority of residents from being able to attend. The sign ordinance has direct impact on free speech and every resident and business in Little Falls. I ask you to reconsider the interest of the common good, and reschedule. Thank you.”
