I apologize for the error in my letter on road maps for saying there was a one percent tax on car rentals dedicated to tourism advertising.
This information was taken from the Minnesota budget website and I did not know it required additional legislation.
Somehow it seems that small dedicated “nuisance” taxes are not a good policy and the Legislature did the right thing in not passing it.
Back to the map thing: True, it is a small thing to charge a dollar for a map, but in the whole mix of things, it is the organizations that pay attention to details and the effect of “finishing touches” that achieve their goals.
A fine concert can be spoiled if the lead singer is just a few vibrations off key. Why not do the best we can?
Wouldn’t it be a good use of advertising dollars to give the maps away?
