Regardless of ones political views, the news last week that the President just decided to stop deporting ILLEGAL immigrants without the approval of Congress should disturb ALL Americans. When did this country become a kingdom? Even though people didn’t approve of the Iraq war that Bush lead this country into, it was only done AFTER the approval of Congress with BOTH parities approval (the U.S. involvement in Libya was done by President Obama without approval of Congress either). On September 28, 2011 President Obama had an interview on CBS News discussing the DREAM Act involving illegal immigrants that were born in the U.S. Here are the President’s own words in 2011.
“This notion that somehow I can just change the laws unilaterally is just not true,” Mr. Obama told the reporters. “There are laws on the books that I have to enforce. I think that there’s been a great disservice done to the cause of getting the DREAM Act passed... by perpetrating the notion that by myself I can go and do these things.”
Immigration activists argued that because the Democratically controlled Senate rejected the DREAM Act in late 2010, Mr. Obama could simply use his executive power to halt deportations among those to whom it would apply.
Mr. Obama dismissed that idea, arguing that “we live in a democracy” and that, as a result, “you have to pass bills through the legislature and then I can sign it.”
Americans that were having a hard enough time finding a job must now compete with 800,000 illegal immigrants for a job (a recent CBS News report estimated that number closer to 1.8 million). This is all done by a President that is “constrained” by an upcoming election. Imagine how “flexible” he will be when he doesn’t have to worry about being reelected to another term. Are we a nation of laws or is whoever is President now the one that decides which laws to obey?
