God's forgiveness

God’s forgiveness

A few weekends ago in the Religion section, a local “preacher” suggested in her years of preaching, she decided that there was no “cure” for homosexuality. I wonder what Bible she reads and preaches to her congregation from? When I look in the mirror I see someone “cured” from drug abuse, alcohol, and an immoral lifestyle all because of Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross. If that preacher looked at the Bible, God’s word, in 1 Corinthians Chapter 6 Verses 9-11 she would see the naming of a few sins that will not inherit the kingdom of God. But Paul goes on to write “such were some of you,” hmm, sounds like some of these people, homosexuals included, were forgiven of their sins after accepting Christ as Savior. As Christians, we are to love the sinner and hate the sin, not ignore them or shun them, but in Christ’s love we are to reach out to them. I hope this preacher fixes her remarks, or some may think that God is limited on what He can forgive.

Well Doug

the way I was taught, your sins are forgiven when you accept Christ in to your life, but it is not a wash to continue sinning. I believe that is what is meant by"Born Again".

God's Forgiveness?

I appreciate the writers passion and commitment. I'm glad his life is good. But an argument based on the Bible is not solid. As is usually the case, people believe whatever they want and then look to the Bible for confirmation ignoring the parts they don't agree with. I point to the laws of Leviticus as an example. Does the writer believe we should enforce the bizarre dietary rules of the bible? Also, the Bible clearly condones slavery. Should we reinstate slavery? There's a clear and definitive commandment against adultery but I don't think we're going to make that illegal.
The case against homosexuality based on the Bible just isn't credible.
The fact is nobody chooses their sexual preference therefor have nothing to be forgiven for. To discriminate based on sexual orientation is as wrong is exactly the same as discrimination based on skin color.

Biblical scholarship and 1Corin.6: 9-11

Mr. Francis might be further challenged by another point of view regarding translation of these verses from Greek to English. http://jesuslovesgays.blogspot.com/2011/07/1-corinthians-69-11-temple-pr... My church has been sadly, and seemingly irreversibly, split (as Republicans are currently trying to split our State with a related Constitutional Amendment) by this issue, and I fail to see how God has been glorified by this divisive fight or how Christian love has been shared.

Just Say "No" to ALL Big Gov't Constitutional Amendments in 2012! ALEC and their funders weren't elected to the MN legislature, and all of their amendments and legislation should be rejected.

There are no remarks that need fixing..

Doug:

I recommend you open your heart and your mind to good science and good christianity. Understand that accepting and welcoming ALL people is what Christ was All about. If sins as they were understood 2000 years ago could be forgiven. Clearly today, with the science that God has given us, we can understand and welcome all people. Give it try its very rewarding to make others smile and feel welcome. Do you really think anyone would “choose” a lifestyle of hatred and discrimination. Each of us are unique and different, created and blessed by by the same God we both worship.
