Aquatic invasive species are a great threat to Minnesota’s waters and our way of life. In addition to Eurasion milfoil, curly leaf pondweed and zebra mussels, we are also threatened with the introduction of Eurasian carp. These highly destructive fish need to be stopped before they take over Minnesota waters.
The locks in Minneapolis are now closed and it is time to take action. A plan of action needs to be implemented before the locks open this spring. During the last few months, Gov. Dayton, the DNR and members of our federal delegation have been working on a plan of action to stop Eurasian carp. Although I applaud these actions and urge the governor to continue to take the needed steps to implement thee plans, we need journalists, politicians and those concerned with the environment to speak out — and soon!
