Another tragic school shooting and there will be those who want to further stop gun sales. That is not the problem. When I went to school in the 1940s we routinely brought our guns and shells to school so we could pheasant or duck hunt after school. We would throw our guns and ammunition in the back seat of a friend’s car so we could immediately hunt after school. I remember one occasion where our school superintendent walked from his house on his way while admiring my shotgun. I might add there were no locked cars. No one would even consider bothering our guns.
What is the difference today. We have surrendered to the ACLU and taken any religion out of our schools. Any mention of God in schools is not allowed by most schools. One of the most important factors in school violence since 1962 was when some left wing judges sided with their ACLU buddies.
We should pass a state law allowing reference to God as perfectly acceptable and expected. In a generation we would see violence drop dramatically. We should include in our legislation requiring all lawyers practicing in Minnesota be required to register if they are or ever have been a member of the ACLU. Our residents could boycott those lawyers out of business If that doesn’t work we will soon have our troops returning from our wars and we can put them to use cleaning up our society problem to rid us of the legal scum.

Mr. Olson, do you realize that you are advocating using military force to limit rights and enforce a theocracy?
You may want to calm your emotions and knee-jerk blaming for a minute or two... or more.
mind-boggling logic, Robert.
I find it mind-boggling that you use a terrible tragedy in Ohio to blame ACLU. ACLU has nothing to do with encouraging students to bring guns to school to kill their classmates. In fact, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonpartisan non-profit organization whose stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States." You can check Wikipedia to verify this fact. Please check your facts and consider the possibility that three young men would not be dead and one young man wouldn't be a triple murderer today if he had not had such easy access to a gun.
Gee...I wonder which religion
Gee...I wonder which religion Mr. Olson wants to see taught in public schools? Ya think it just might be HIS religion?
There are dozens of different religions, each with their own creeds, holy books, sects and denoniations.
Instead of throwing out the First Amendment and hiring thousands of new teachers with degrees in assorted religions, it might be easier if Mr. Olson would just send his children to church now and then.
American Taliban
That's my fear.
The religious fundamentalists the right wingers so despise in the mid-east are bad. But in America they would set up a similiar system.
Didn't the Pilgrims come here for religious freedom?
bob
kids can pray in school
remember the prayer vigils at the flagpole at BHS?
remember football players praying before games?
someone must have sent you an email about the aclu to get you all riled up.

"consider the possibility that three young men would not be dead and one young man wouldn't be a triple murderer today if he had not had such easy access to a gun." A firearm is just a tool, and yes it may have been easier to accomplish his evil task with one, but a person that driven will find a way to do his deed with, or without a firearm.
Parenting...
This all goes back to parenting... Period! Too many parents these days want to be their kids' BFF and not their parent. Parenting is hard work and sometimes you may not be your kids' besty but it is absolutely necessary to come down on your kids once in a while. It's your job to teach them right and wrong regardless of religion. You brought the kids into this world, it's your job to make sure they are an asset and not a detriment to society.
Stories
Those that tell the stories define the culture. Stories were once told by our elders and our parents around the dinner table and in the evening sitting and visiting. Now, stories are told by the media and video games. Kids live in a warped reality and can not separate right from wrong. We live in an ever changing world and it is not for the better. Society has failed this generation of kids and for that I feel truly sorry for them.
redirected blame
Please do not ever blame a gun for killing someone, that is faulted logic. Guns are inanimate objects that just sit there until someone picks it up, loads it, takes it off safe and fires it. One thing I do agree with though, the ACLU is turning this country into a ME!!ME!!ME!! society and that is why frivolous lawsuits are out of hand. Have fun libs I'll check back in later.
"Left Wing or Right Wing; they both taste good with Bleu Cheese and hot sauce"- Me
Mr. olson
where i do think the zero tolerance policy is a bit over the top, guns do not belong at school, i was in a generation where i could bring my gun to school so i could go hunting without stopping by my house first, unfortunately those days are gone. it has more to do with ineffective parenting than anything else, we can put the blame in a number of directions but in the end it falls on the shoulders of parents not educating their children about faith honor and self discipline.yes the aclu is a problem but with the damage it has done through frivolus lawsuts it has also done some good, there is good and bad in every organization.
