Two strong counter currents in our society are the need for jobs and the need for money to run the ever more complex government. Politicians who have never made a payroll seem to think they can do magic, and create jobs, by their fiddling with incentives and more programs.
The problem is, that, in almost the same breath they profess to be “for” the entrepreneur, they then boldly proclaim that they will take a big hunk of the success away in taxes. You get more of what you subsidize and less of what you tax. No wonder that job creators are wary!
Like Doctor Dolittle’s “Pushmepullyou”, The politicians say “We want you to create jobs but, if you are successful, we’re going to hit you hard.”
Perhaps a candidate should not run for office unless they have personally made “payroll” for at least five people for five years, and shown a profit!

'Twas suggested that "a candidate should not run for office unless they have personally made 'payroll' for at least five people for five years, and shown a profit!"???
Ah yes -- yet another simple solution to a complex predicament.

Hey, I've got an idea!
Let's elect a vulture capitalist as president!
