Congress could sacrifice

OPEN FORUM:

Posted: January 9, 2012 - 6:41pm

I have watched a few of the debates between the best candidates the Republican party has to offer. I haven’t heard anything about expecting the haves to pay their fair share. And all the proposed cuts will affect the have-nots or have-less. I would have liked to hear someone suggest that the members of Congress sacrifice a little and live under the same laws they make for us since they are the ones who are doing such a miserable job and are responsible for the mess we are in.

What I have heard is none of those running think any of the other candidates in their own party are qualified to be president. Thanks Republicans. This will make my usual decision to vote for the lesser of two evils a little easier this fall.

Congress/State/Local is a reflection of who put them there.

It's called voting.
Right or wrong.
Persuaded or not.
2012 is another year to vote.
Don't vote, don't gripe.
Vote, get to gripe, and offer opinions to the next election cycle.
Love that cycle, enjoy the ride :o) Vroom, vroom.

Galt makes an excellent point!

"We're broke. Really broke.
$15 trillion in the hole broke.
Don't you think a few cuts are in order?"

That is about $48,000 for every person living in the USA. Someone please explain to me the mindset of any politician that just believes that we keep spending without any regard to cutting something? Just how long do we go without making changes to reduce our budget?

We will go...

as long as the credit card lasts LLR. This election will be between those who see the need to cut it up and those who don't want to, plain and simple.

everyone wants to cut spending

But no one agrees on what things to cut apparantly.
If one group says, cut defense, the other group says, Iran is going to bomb us.
You know the drill.

Hold your nose, Congress, and cut it all across the board.

"Hell hath no fury like a defense contractor denied," according to one pundit.

Teat

We have now been attached to the gov't teat so long, we are virtually one and the same. It will take real blood letting to separate us. Listen to OWS howl.

jomammy:

So what would you cut, oh wise one?

Instead of grousing about liberals, state your preferences.

What entitlements bug you the most?

Speak up.
Don't be shy.
No dithering.
Be specific.

A liberal is willing to listen to you.

expecting the haves to pay their fair share

Julie, you make the statement, "expecting the haves to pay their fair share" yet neither you or any of the others using this statement will actually give us a definition of FAIR SHARE. Does this mean that we ALL should give a fair share? Does this mean that there are different values to fair share dependant upon our income level?

So often our President uses this fair share value without applying any actual value to it. He seems to use it to separate the folks in this great nation of ours into subsets which are level of income associated. I seem to remember that in our founding documents there is a statement about the RIGHT to the PERSUIT of happiness.

Because one person utilizes his God given (or those gained through evolution?) talents or vocations to persue in a different or more or less capable manner, should he be required to provide a greater or lesser percentage of his rewards as his fair share?

I have become exceedingly tired of the use of this non defined term! Please, one of you who wants to or has used it, give us an honest and especially meaningful definition so we are able to understand what each of us is required to share. And, please note that this should include all of us from the lowest income levels to the highest. Maybe then we will know if the arguments relavent to 'class warfare are meaningful or ficticious!

thanks, jomammy

I agree...non-citizens should not vote and collect benefits which they have not paid into, such as social security and medicare.

taxes

if the irs doesn't have the personnel to process and audit tax returns, there is a problem. So people cheat...most people stretch their deductions. So simplify the whole process. And then do more audits to catch the problems.
