Open Forum: Actions speak louder than words

Posted: August 9, 2011 - 4:48pm

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ‘s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies.

Increasing America ‘s debt weakens us domestically and internationally.

Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”  —  Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

As we all know, action speaks louder than words!

Raising the debt limit is the

Raising the debt limit is the result of the Bush tax cuts, unfunded wars, stupid decisions made by SOME home buyers, and deregulating the wolves on Wall Street.

Dependence on fossil fuels

Dependence on fossil fuels for transportation, heating and electricity also weakens our national security. So does energy waste.

You hit the nail

Fishhead, you pretty much hit the nail on the head !!!

Here are a few things I would do: (1) I think we should let the Bush tax cuts expire, make companies like GE pay their fair share. (2) Regulate Wall Street and put a stop to the banksters who are the greatest thieves in world history. (3) Get off our addiction to middle eastern oil, use our own energy sources, which are huge by the way. (4) Re-industrialize America, and put our own people back to work. These employed people would pay taxes instead of being on unemployment and welfare, and they would be able to once again buy consumer goods which would also help the economy. (5) Finish the damn fence and put our troops on our Southern border. (6) Let the millitary fight the war in the Middle East. Let them do their business as they know how and get the politicians out of it. If the millitary were allowed to do it their way they would clean that place up in a hurry and our troops would soon be home.
(7) Campaign funding reform. Get rid of unlimited corporate funding and secret funding. Right now we all know we have the best congress that money can buy. We need a congress that represents the great mass of average Americans, not just the banksters and corporations. (8) Quit using the Social Security funds to finance other ares of government. (9) A balanced budget amendment to the constitution except in times of declared wars, not the undeclared wars like we have now. (10) Apprehend and deport all illegal aliens.

That's why we need to DEMAND

That's why we need to DEMAND 100% public funding of elections. Unless we get that I don't see how congress will ever work for the people. They can't because their jobs depend on selling votes.
