A letter to the editor published in the Tuesday, April 19 Brainerd Dispatch expressed opposition to the wars. The letter called for people to take a stand. There is a group taking a stand against the wars: The Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace (BACP). BACP held a vigil at the intersection of Highways 210 and 371 on Saturday, April 16.
BACP is a group of dedicated, passionate people determined to express our opposition to the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. Peace is a nonpartisan issue. BACP protests the wars regardless of the administration waging them. We advocate non-intervention in foreign affairs and respect for civil liberties at home.
BACP holds spring and fall vigils, marches in the Fourth of July parade, provides information to fairgoers at the Crow Wing County Fair, and holds film presentations throughout the year. We also maintain an informative, well updated website at www.brainerdpeace.org.
I encourage everyone who wants the wars to end to join BACP. Our next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 2 at the United Church of Christ. Please join us.
