I was a Marine wife for 20 years and during that time my husband (a Marine major who served in Vietnam) and I knew many gay soldiers. We were friends and we respected them for their abilities and loyalty to our country.
I am a grandmother now and all of my 10 grandchildren are friends and supportive to gay people. The Congress needs to catch up with society. Being gay is like being left-handed - it happens. We shouldn't force people to lie or be silent about who they are and who they can love.
The military leaders, Secretary Gates, Admiral Mullen all support ending this farce. If Congress doesn't do it, the courts will do it. The armed services have said they would rather have it legislated by our Congress and president. Write and tell your legislators to do it now. Let justice prevail!
