Fleet

The gun subject has nothing to do with why I very seldom go to Fleet anymore. I gave up on them after their last remodel. You can't find anything in that store now and most of their employees wouldn't know a screwdriver from a hammer- let alone where to find it. I understand why they put everything I need all the way to the back of the store but if you are in a hurry (and when aren't you) its a shorter hike to the back of Ace Hardware to get some nuts and bolts. Plus every employeee at Ace knows exactly where and what everything is. If they don't know they just don't say "oh we don't have that". I lost track of the things that Fleet employees have told me they didn't have but I found them. I've been know to make it a point of finding that clueless employee and leading them to where I found said item. There is a 99% chance Ace will have what I need and it seems that there is a 99% chance that Fleet will be out of what I need---especially if it is anything seasonal. Fleet quit being the Mans Mall years ago.

Stewart forgot a few words on the Second Amendment...

Second Amendment text starts with..
A well regulated Militia...
Source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Const...

Here's the text...
As passed by the Congress:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed...

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed...

You can argue a shotgun vs. assault weapon

until you are blue in the face. The fact of the matter is that Myeye is right, Obama wants the guns and he is going to use an Executive Order to get the guns, ALL THE GUNS!

Wow, what an excellent idea

Wow, what an excellent idea to get the newspaper to advertise for you at no cost to the business. Hmmmm, it just happens to coincide with the opening of the indoor range.

And look at all those new beautiful guns and other gear. No, there was no underlying commercial motive behind this letter.

Anyway, Mills did not tell the viewer the following:
1 He is NOT a Constititutional scholar. The second Amendment is so ambiguous that it has bene left to the Courts to ascertain the limitations of this right. And if the gun enthusiast is adamant that the Courts should not "legislate behind the bench", then perhaps those same enthusiasts would be glad to also reject the Heller decision that actually solidified INDIVIDUAL right to bear arms (before this decision, the Courts sided with the militia aspect of the amendment)

2) Sure the shotgun can do more damage to one person, but when you have episodes where dozens of people are getting shot, the "sporting rifle" he used went 25 rounds without reloading. That is potentially 25 victims. Sound familiar? The shotgun, while having more projectiles, would not result in as many casualties if there was no time to reload. 6 potential victims (okay, maybe a few more if people are close together v. 25 potential.

Plus, see how much shorter the sporting rifle was. Easier to conceal.

It's a flawed demonstration that did a great job taking advantage of an emotional issue among those in fear to get free advertising. Nothing more. And, yes, I will still shop Fleet. They do have a damn good store! And it is a locally driven company.

More legislation needed.

Biden was O'Bama's second choice cuz Clarabell passed away in 1961,but Joe will get everything squared away with only 7 or 8 new laws and 4 or 5 F-bombs. Go, Joe! I feel safer already.

Twist, This is a topic where

Twist,

This is a topic where I am honestly trying to answer that question myself. I am trying to listen to both sides' take on it (hence putting up with the 12 minute commercial above). I am also aware simply creating more stringent laws does not keep guns away form the bad guys, which is why I am on the fence of this issue.

But let me ask you: Do you agree that people should not be able to possess rocket propelled grenades? AK-47s? nuclear bombs? May seem far fetched, but my point is there is always a line where rights are limited and the limits viewed as being "reasonable".

And if the NRA is going to keep insisting on its view of the second amendment as the only true interpretation of such amendment, what is to stop the government from forcing trigger locks on them? Or in making a law that makes all triggers get removed? Or a law that says the gun must have a 20 pound ball and chain attached to it to keep guns form being carried? All it says is the right to keep and bear shall not be infringed ; it doesn't say the gun has to work or that that owners must be clinically sane. What if Congress passes a law that says all guns must have cement poured down its barrel? Nothing in the 2nd Amendment prevents this if you look at the strict wording of it.

If gun owners insist to live by the creed of the Second Amendment as unquestionable, they must also be willing to look at what the amendment does not protect you from.

So what I am reading here, is

So what I am reading here, is if you want to kill a large number of people, go with the Bushmaster, not the shotgun? You people are looney. I'm not for outlawing all guns, by any means, but a gun capable of firing 25 or more rounds before reloading isn't necessary to anyone.

Excellent post, SmartGuy

I wonder if every business in the Brainerd/Baxter area can have homemade video commentary published for free detailing all of the new ins and outs of their business on the Dispatch Web site.

I suppose they really need to keep those Fleet Farm advertising dollars after losing out on the Crow Wing County account to ..... The NewsHopper?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Maybe,

What we should do is put this in context.

The same people who want to take your guns, are the same exact people who caused 911. They are the same ones who enacted laws to limited your freedoms with the passage of the Patriot act 1 and 2. The Homegrown terrorist and violent radicalization act among a few and of course the NDAA which was signed just this last freakin week. The NDAA will allow them to place you in a secret prison WITHOUT due process. How ya like them apples?

These same people who want your guns, are the same people who after 911 used the MSM to pump lies out of the idiot box into your head that "Saddam has WMD's"

And on and on through every war going back 100 years to 1913 when the Federal Reserve was created. “It is no coincidence that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking.”

So, sure, Let's let the ones who control this chaos of total war against other countries take out guns. Makes sense to me!

OMG

Once again an unprofessional act by one of the Mills children, yes I said children. If you would like to see and hear more of their unprofessionalism, try working for the Mills Auto Group. I know my opinion might upset the mighty Mills family, however I also know this will get praise and lots of LOL’s from most of their employees. You won’t hear anything from the employees as they are scared stiff they will be out of work when a certain someone has a hissy fit.

the 2nd amendment's primary

the 2nd amendment's primary function is for US citizens to hold arms as a threat against a tyrranical or dictatorial leaning government. The arms the citizens have are a deterrent against gov't in removing our liberties.. This is issue is not about guns, it's about our liberties.. THe people must have a legitimate threat to restrain gov't just as they do with us by coercion, illegal taxation, threats of gun laws, , immoral laws, etc...
2nd amendment is nothing about hunting and all about self-defense of private property and maintaining a free people and restraining gov't... IF IT WASN'T FOR ALL THE GUNS, we'd be socialist ever since Bill Clinton

Also,

This country is in debt. But to whom?

We are in debt to the global bankers. And there is no way out of it. Yet they need to collect on this debt. Do you want to know how they do it? By first removing our guns, and next by sending another country over here that they currently favor (china) most likely.

Isoroku Yamamoto, the Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy is quoted saying that ;
"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

Just some things to think about.

Larry,

"I'm not for outlawing all guns, by any means, but a gun capable of firing 25 or more rounds before reloading isn't necessary to anyone."

But the person in the White House is for outlawing all guns!!

I just wish that the President and Vice President would devote as much time and effort to the economy and unemployment as they seem to be devoting to abolishing the 2nd Amendment through Executive Order!

President Obama wants to bring the troops home

from Afghanistan this year, not take "all of your guns."
We should all support the troops returning.

Good mass email guaranteed to help sales at WalMart and Fleet, though.

Snopes has the viral email and declares it false.

Southie,

What can bringing home the troops have to do with taking our guns? They are two seperate subjects unless your implying that the President can't work on two issues at the same time! I know you are doing your best to put the President, someone I'm sure you supported, in the best light but there is nothing that he will ever do to make me assume that he is anything but a far, far, far left socialist.

You win,

They are all socialists. And every liberal wants guns destroyed along with the 2nd amendment. And video games don't cause violence in teens. And we have enough gun rules and regulations. And guns don't kill people, people kill people.

And this posted video is not a marketing ploy, but a visual message to Minnesota congresspeople. Maybe tomorrow Walmart, the nations' number one gun seller, will post a video.

And legislation has been introduced to forward this agenda.
Now if I could just find it...

It's not about winning and losing!

Not all liberals are socialists just like all Democrats aren't liberals. I just happen to believe that the President and the people of his administration ARE socialists and they do want to undermine this country. I believe that video game DO cause violence in our teens and yes we do have enough gun legislation but we don't enforce it. I don't care what or how major retailers deliver their message on issues, it's not the way I would have but I have no say in how they operate. Finally, you won't find legislation because the President has no intention of going through Congress but he is going to do it by executive order. I don't expect you to believe me but it came from the Vice President's mouth.

Mr. Mills your logic is flawed

First, let me start by saying I support 2nd amendment rights for us to keep and bear arms. I consider myself a responsible gun owner.

Mr. Mills' argument that a shotgun is more dangerous than an assault weapon is silly in the context of the current public discussion on how to limit the damage of shootings like that in Connecticut and Colorado. Does Mr. Mills really believe the shooter at Sandy Hook or Aurora would have shot more people with a shotgun than with a semi-automatic weapon? Really?

Don't make me laugh, LLR: "... the President and the people of

his administration ARE socialists and they do want to undermine this country." C'mon, LLR. Seriously?!? The Pres. and most of his admin. are barely left of center (and some not even that). They are rich capitalists (some of them not many steps off of Wall Street) who, after they leave their admin. jobs, will go on to make nice incomes in the private sector. Socialists? Hardly. The worst combination of character traits is "paranoid and gullible", and I know you're not, so please don't make me laugh by calling them socialists.

On the subject of guns and videos, Mr. James Yeager, who gained notoriety recently for a video of his own, had his permit pulled in TN. http://www.wsmv.com/story/20559778/tn-firearms-instructor-gains-attentio...

If there is an Executive Order re: common sense regulations aimed at gun violence, count on it NOT including a ban of a single weapon. It's looking like the admin. is not going to go there, so the "bunker people" and other assorted zealots need to keep their powder dry. They WILL probably ask for background checks on the 40% of folks who avoid them through "gun show loophole". Good -- they should. And 70% of NRA members agree with this.
