Surprise, surprise — the phony “fiscal cliff” negotiations have once again resulted in higher taxes and no serious spending cuts. But it doesn’t matter, because, the truth be known, the U.S. went over the so-called fiscal cliff long ago and is now in free fall toward the fiscal abyss that lies at the bottom of that cliff.
How will we know when we hit bottom? Easy. It’s when the government’s obfuscation and chicanery tactics no longer work and people finally discover that their paper money is worthless, their 401Ks are worthless, and their income is worthless.
Now, the question is, does any politician — Tea Party? Conservative? Libertarian? — have the honesty and courage to talk openly about the really important cliff, the one we’re still hanging onto by our fingernails? The cliff I’m referring to is the Tyranny Cliff.
Sam Donaldson’s recent rant about the Tea Party was a reminder that the far left is doing everything in its power to marginalize anyone who dare suggest that Americans are being tyrannized by their own government. Graybeard Sam’s diatribe, which had a “love it or leave it” ring to it, included, in part:
“The greatest slogan that I hated during this last campaign was ‘We want to take back our country.’ Guys, it’s not your country anymore — it’s our country and you’re part of it, but that thinking is going to defeat Republicans nationally if they don’t get rid of it.”
That’s odd. And here all along I was under the impression that Republicans lost the last election because their candidate did not think like that.
This is the left-wing media at its best, chastising those who dare to imply that Americans are losing their freedom. And, sadly, I believe that a majority of Americans do believe that they live in a free country.
The reason they are able to delude themselves in the face of ever-increasing government tyranny is that politicians, while increasing taxes and regulations and gaining evermore control over our personal lives, have been telling us for generations how lucky we are to live in the freest country on earth.
Such creeping totalitarianism is effective because each generation views conditions at any given time as normal. Thus, gradual change is desirable from a government’s point of view because people are not aware of small changes on a day-to-day basis.
In fact, by the early 1980s, with Ronald Reagan firmly entrenched in the White House, discussions about freedom became almost passé. This self-delusive attitude is not new to history, as evidenced by Etienne de la Boetie’s sixteenth-century observation:
It is incredible how as soon as a people becomes subject, it promptly falls into such complete forgetfulness of its freedom that it can hardly be roused to the point of regaining it, obeying so easily and so willingly that one is led to say . . . that this people has not so much lost its liberty as won its enslavement.
Which brings me to the radical community organizer who now occupies the White House. Though I give Barack Obama an “A” for what he has managed to accomplish during his first four years in office — moving the country toward Marxism and dictatorial rule at mach speed — it has been a two-edged sword for him. He has moved so swiftly that he has also awakened millions of snoozing serfs who had heretofore been quietly and obediently marching in lockstep toward their enslavement.
Even so, long before Barack Obama and today’s far-left wackos in Congress took control of Washington, government had already established its superiority over its former employer, the citizenry, by teaching people to love their servitude. Control of men, as Machiavelli pointed out centuries ago, is much easier and far less dangerous if rulers can gain the cooperation of their subjects through mind control rather than by having to rely solely on the use of force.
But one cannot mislead millions of people on one’s own. Peaceful control of a nation is largely dependent on the efficiency of the government’s propaganda machine. This entails the effective use of large numbers of intellectuals and media personalities whose task it is to make the masses so love their servitude that government does not have to use harsh measures to force them to bend to its will.
The far left that now controls the reins of power has virtually unlimited access to the media, which makes it remarkably easy to disseminate its 1984-style propaganda. This access, along with virtually unlimited cash furnished by taxpayers and the Treasury Department’s printing presses, puts the Dirty Dems, aided and abetted by their establishment Republican enablers, in an enviable position to slant the news to their liking.
After all, David Gregory, Brian Williams, and George Stephanopoulos are never more than a phone call away. And they never fail the Dirty Dems when a synthetic crisis (global warming, energy shortage, “fiscal cliff,” companies too big to fail, TARP, etc.) needs to be invented and publicized to divert people’s attention away from their loss of wealth and freedom.
Many generations have come and gone since the Founding Fathers put their lives on the line by signing a document that declared themselves to be free of King George’s tyranny, and they undoubtedly would be saddened by the present-day tyranny in America. It’s only by comparing how and where our freedom began and where we are today that one can fully appreciate the extent of our drift toward a collectivist, totalitarian nation-state over the past 236 years.
Instead of wasting time on nonsense like the “fiscal cliff,” what hapless Republicans should be talking about is putting an end to government tyranny. The objective of the American Revolutionists was to make men free, to place them above government, but today’s reality is that government has become firmly entrenched as the omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent guiding force in people’s lives.
The United States long ago fell off the fiscal cliff. The nation is bankrupt — get over it! But once the government is forced to officially acknowledge its bankruptcy — which is inevitable — the big question will be whether we will try to build a new nation on a foundation of government tyranny or on individual liberty.
It would be much to our advantage to start addressing that question now — before the inevitable is upon us — because, when the time comes, you can be sure that the left will try to blame America’s demise on the ruthlessness of capitalism and the evils of individualism.

the Lefters on here.
Like the Dick Cheney used to say =Deficits Dont Matter !
How could a good republicon be critical of their own Darth Vader ?
Now that the GOPers have actually admitted that ongoing tax cuts really make that debt clock spin faster , now its time for their new normal .
That being " Now that Obama has dealt with his fixation on Rev/Taxes -Its time to get busy on spending cuts " Really !
Wow , I guess extending those 10 year old Bush/ Republicon tax cuts for 98% of Americans is going to create a huge windfall in tax Rev ???????
If the idiots in control of the US House of Reps screw with the debt ceiling vote AGAIN , they may as well all start the interview process NOW for their next paying gig.
Aloha, B. Hussein
Where was your fearless uniter/leader in all this? InHonolulu working on his tan. Thanks, Barry.
Humorous Irony
Private insurance has more control over our lives than many people will ever admit or even comprehend. Private business has more control over who has power and voice in the media than will those who are eager to believe they are hapless victims of lib'rl media.
The sheep are the ones who preach blind obedience to the all-knowing, omnipotent, wise, 'right'eous, and benevolent creator (of jobs). The trend away from freedom is the erosion of the middle class through downsizing, union busting, and witless backbiting of anyone whose paycheck may (or may not) be bigger than yours.
The division in this country is the "divide-and-conquer" methodology of those in power convincing the ignorant to blame each other for everything from the price of gas to the weather. Among said ignorant are those who can't quite get their brain around the concept that "accepting responsibility" is not achieved by blaming "them".
So which is it? Either hard working, morally superior, and righteous people are too weak to do anything about shiftless, lazy, blood sucking mongrels, or conservatives aren't really the helpless little (otherwise impeccable) victims of evil liberal empires as Robert Ringer - and as do some "poor-me" posters so often - will portray.
I'm not calling for anyone to "come over to my side". I'm challenging everyone to comprehend "balance" and the strength of it.
Ten odd years ago, I wrote
Ten odd years ago, I wrote pretty much the same thing that Mr. Ringer did here. Except, it was about G W B. I'm sure some of you remember.
History, sanitize, rinse, repeat
You could probably read this type of declaration of impending doom and tyranny since the first editorial was ever offered to the people.
Makes for a great religious climax and validation too! ;~)
But mav,
you also said a missle hit the pentagon!
In order
to understand what is really going on, you MUST give up on your "Left-Right paradigm" And when you do, a funny thing happens. You start seeing that both wings are controlled by the same bird.
You start to find out that they are actually working together to bring tyranny to this country. You NEED to uncover the truth! You can start with the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act which was brought (forced) on us under Bush and continued under Obama. Or maybe, you can watch a few online documentaries on 911 and what REALLY happened. From there, you will want to know who was truly behind it. But I'll speed you up. World Bankers. As in the Federal Reserve.
You see, they want, need and push this Left/ Right crap on you. They need it and use it as just one of their weapons to keep citizens distracted, bickering and apart. They know that when the citizenry comes together and finds out about their scam, And when we as a people all recognize that every dollar that they print creates more debt by simply printing out of thin air not backed by a damn thing, they are done. And the fiscal cliff is truly gone.
Ringer's rant
goes on and on reminiscent of a bad late-night 40's rerun on t.v. that never seems to end. Typical of a republican....
'much ado about nothing'.
I agree 100%
with you mav on everything except some of the 911 part.
I can't believe that a planeload of people just vanished and a missile hit the Pentagon.
It just was too much fun to disagree with you at the time.
FNB You'll have to find
FNB
You'll have to find that out yourself. But should we believe the official story?

May tricks
Before you could make an argument for a national bipartisan conspiracy, you'd have to paint an impressive image of an organized and unified government working in coordination, cooperation, and harmony.
Yeah.... right!
I see a patchwork quilt with holes, horrendous color patterns, a few legs, some of the weakest thread available. (It started as a doily.)
Where you see conspiracy, I see consensus. And a very human condition of accepting "like, whatever".
Was Ringer's piece also in the print edition on 1/3 (a question
for any of you who still pay for this paper)? In the print edition, after a long(ish) "guest editorial", does the Dispatch provide a brief post-article description of author/credentials, as do most reputable newspapers? Who is Mr. Ringer? Is this a guest editorial, or a long letter-to-the-editor Keith tossed into the online version for chuckles? Is Ringer a local guy? Idaho bunker dude? Some of his ilk do a lot to keep the growing "survivalist" industry (and gun/ammo mfgrs) rolling in the dough (or, I guess I should say, rolling in the gold bullion). Keep up the great editorial work, Mr. Hansen. Articles like this are helpful for those who don't check in with survivalblog.com as often as they should.
Never mind.
Never Mind. It's this "Robert Ringer"/ranter, as discussed in article about the Obamapocalypse.
"An Obama Dictatorship. Robert Ringer, who calls himself “A Voice of Sanity,” is a motivational speaker, a self-help author and big fan of Ayn Rand. He’s also got the president all figured out. After the election, the “Marxmeister” will move swiftly to unleash a “dictatorial full monty.” We’re talking instant citizenship for all Third World immigrants; a new sedition act that criminalizes criticism of the government; forced equalization of income; suspension of habeas corpus; the end of fossil fuel production, and much more."
From a good article entitled: "Paranoid Prognosticators Fear Doomsday Scenarios Under Second Obama Term." All of the predictions are old news, painting quite a picture of doom and gloom, (and definitely keeping sales high for manufacturers of guns, ammo, large food storage cannisters, ...). And some people think it takes an unreasonable leap of faith to believe in God! If you believe in the fairy tales these folks weave, God's an easy leap. The folks who are really in charge -- those few who inhabit a smattering of penthouse boardrooms worldwide, laugh their socks off at these sometimes self-fulfilling tall-tales. http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2012/10/30/paranoid-prognosticators-fear-d...
