Holidays come and go each year. Once they have passed we tend to fall back into the same routines that we had.
This year, Roy and Anna decided to end that cycle. This year, they made a resolution to become more involved at the senior center and they are doing it! Roy and Anna enjoy playing cards and before they moved to the lakes area, they played on a regular basis. Since relocating, they have not had the time to start up another group.
Both Roy and Anna volunteer for the senior center during their plant sale. When they heard that the center was looking to add new activities beginning in January, they decided to start a Pinochle group. They both have a passion for playing cards and enjoy the socialization that occurs while you are playing also. Pinochle is a card game that they both have played for years and starting a group to share in the fun was easy.
If you are interested in learning and playing Pinochle, Roy and Anna’s group will have a kick off meeting on Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m. in the Card Room of the senior center. At that time, the group will be deciding how often they want to play including the day and time. And, of course, be prepared to play some Pinochle!
Do you have ideas for activities, programs or events? Stop into the center and find out what we have to offer. If it is not already have on our schedule, we will see what it will take to make it happen! Let us take your New Year’s resolutions and turn them into reality. We are located on the corners of Eighth and Kingwood streets on the north side of Brainerd. We are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The coffee is always on and we welcome you to visit!
DEANN BARRY is the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center director.
