Super Bowl XLVII: Football takes on snappy commercials

Posted: February 1, 2013 - 6:14pm

No, the Minnesota Vikings and our MVP Adrian Peterson will not be part of this 47th Super Bowl tonight in the Big Easy. Yes, it has been a battle of pre-game hype vying Jim against older brother John Harbaugh, but it’s the commercials that interest many fans.

Expect a good football game, but expect off the chart entertainment for businesses that are paying between $3.7 and $3.8 million per 30-second commercial — that’s $123,000 per second. It’s safe to say that most advertisers paying that kind of money for 30 seconds will trot out some star-studded glitz or crazy hilarious attention grabbers.

For those of you Kate Upton fans, the gorgeous and talented super model Kate will be washing a Mercedes-Benz (with the gawking assistance of a football team) in a commercial that seems to be getting the attention of most web site reports.

Use your imagination to come up with what Ms. Upton might display in washing an MB. It’s the seductive CLA MB, but does not come with the seductive Ms. Upton. Sorry guys.

It seems as though Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., used the sensuous Ms. Upton to grab the attention of their male Super Bowl viewers. This one’s a bit over the top, but should get rave reviews.

Coca-Cola is asking viewers to cheer for three very different groups – including a troupe of show girls, a band of cowboys and a biker-style gang of “badlanders” – all on a quest for a thirst-quenching Coke in a desert.

Taco Bell: The company’s teaser shows an elderly man, who is also the star of its Game Day ad, doing wheelies in a scooter on a football field. This one’s, well...watch and decide.

America’s No. 1 selling car company, Toyota is featuring “Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco, who grants wishes to a peppy song. This one’s kinda “geeky” dumb.

Go Daddy has an ad that is about putting one’s idea online first. It’s humorous.

VW, Budweiser, Doritos, Skechers and other companies rich enough to cough up $123,000 a second will add relief in the event of a blow out on the field.

Let me know which commercial is your favorite by emailing me at Keith.Hansen@brainerddispatch.com.

Enjoy the commercials, I mean enjoy Super Bowl 47.

Oh, goodie -- a new fraternity!

What's the name of your new fraternity, Keith? Is there a tough hazing period, or can anyone join? Will there be scantily clad girls (like the "teaser ads" on this website) at all of the frat parties? Yoo hoo!! Parteeee! Bubbie Yumbette
