In the hysteria of these senseless killings there is a call for gun control. Read the editorial and opinion page Dec. 17 Minneapolis paper and you will see that people say we have bigger problems than gun control.
The social fabric of this country is deteriorating. Parents spend far less time with their children today than ever.
Kids spend far more time playing violent video games and watching violent TV shows than studying. And the list goes on.
Here is a thought to ponder: “Dear God, why do you allow so much violence in our schools? Signed a concerned student.
Dear concerned student, I’m not allowed in schools. God”

what is baloney about what the writer wrote?
Dennis some gun control is on the way , you better get ready
Because Im afraid the former AR Gov. ( Mike the Huckster) has already tried your way of praying the problem away.
Ineffective wishing & hoping wont stop gun violence in this country.
"Ineffective wishing & hoping
"Ineffective wishing & hoping wont stop gun violence in this country."
this is correct, we need to start holding ourselves responsible for what happens. People need to value others not leave that to the Government. If we take care of our own instead of leaving it up to the Government. maybe we would care more what happens to them if we were a little invested.
But now we don't want to offend someone by labeling them evil or bad ... some people need to be offended. Hell, most leberal won't even admit evil exsists, It's all a "moral grey area"
And Gun control won't stop gun violence, either...
...Captron. At least not the gun control you envision. Have you ever noticed how the cities with the strictest gun control have the worst gun violence. That's because bad/crazy people don't care about laws. Sane people with concealed carry permits, OTOH, prevent and limit gun violence every day. The only guns that have ever successfully been "controlled" are the ones in the hands of the good, law-abiding people.
Amen, Disciple,
Oh am I allowed to say that on here!
Guns not allowed
Don't killers/idiot/evil people usually go to the places that
have those signs "no guns allowed on site"? I haven't done
a search, but VA Tech, schools, WI temple, even Ft. Hood
they didn't bring weapons in the room where the shooting occurred. You know the so-called work place violence that
was really a terrorist act.
I don't know if the recent mall shooting had those signs up but I do know there was a guy that was carrying and was aiming before the evil one was shot by cops ( I think he was shot by cops).
We do need to do something about the mental health procedures . What can parents do ??
I'm not getting into the gun discussion, but I see mental health, and the combo of violent movies and games something to be worked on.
People do want to do something but, not necessarily the same thing that gun control advocates want. That is all they
talk about - gun control -- they don't see that it is more than that.
Sadie
The writer implies that God is not allowed in schools. That is simply false.
You can pray anytime you want in school. You can even pray out loud if you want as long as it isn't disruptive to class.
You mean as long as no one
else hears you, right fish?
Why can Muslims chant at Mecca and wail and teachers teach evolution out loud?
"That is all they talk about -- gun control -- they don't
see that it is more than that." (quoted from Sadie, above) Actually, I'm not sure that's a fair statement, at least in terms of what this administration thinks. From Obama's press conference today:
"Over these past five days, a discussion has reemerged as to what we might do not only to deter mass shootings in the future, but to reduce the epidemic of gun violence that plagues this country every single day. And it’s encouraging that people of all different backgrounds and beliefs and political persuasions have been willing to challenge some old assumptions and change longstanding positions.
That conversation has to continue. But this time, the words need to lead to action.
We know this is a complex issue that stirs deeply held passions and political divides. And as I said on Sunday night, there’s no law or set of laws that can prevent every senseless act of violence in our society. We’re going to need to work on making access to mental health care at least as easy as access to a gun. We’re going to need to look more closely at a culture that all too often glorifies guns and violence. And any actions we must take must begin inside the home and inside our hearts.
But the fact that this problem is complex can no longer be an excuse for doing nothing. The fact that we can’t prevent every act of violence doesn’t mean we can’t steadily reduce the violence, and prevent the very worst violence."
This seems like an approach that is trying to consider the wide range of issues/factors involved, not just guns.

When this man comments on Fast and Furious, I will listen. Until then, he is wasting his time.
Gun control will stop gun
Gun control will stop gun violence as well as the war on drugs has stopped drug use.

TW: Whatever floats thy boat!
I had to refresh my memory with some of the salient points on this story, so I checked an old, saved doc. http://www.politicususa.com/issas-fast-furious-rants-eric-holder-telling....
At this point, F&F is, at best, tangentially on-topic. And, I'll be sorry I asked, but heck, I'll bite: on what further F&F comments from Pres. Obama are you waiting? Do you actually think the President is going to give credence to Issa's Fox-ready witch-hunt by commenting ex post facto? Shoot, I thought the witch-hunt du jour was Benghazi, but, hey, why pick just one when there can be a chain of 'em. Seems like a lot of bullpucky was thrown against the wall by a few grandstanding Republicans -- first Issa &co., and then McCain,Graham,Ayotte -- who desperately wanted to defeat Pres. Obama. IMO, they didn't help their causes much by turning serious issues into political sideshows.
Here's another approach.
Let's be realistic and stipulate that some participants on this site might not cozy up to an idea if Pres. Obama utters it. But what if former Pres. Reagan endorsed the idea(s)?:
Washington, DC - The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence today (Wednesday) released "Reagan's Gun Legacy," a report detailing the Gipper's surprising efforts to pass the federal assault weapons ban and other gun laws, including the Brady Bill. The Educational Fund released the report on the eve of the Republican National Convention, where conservatives will no doubt pay homage to the 40th President.
The full report, including Ronald Reagan's record and rhetoric on the gun issue, can be accessed here http://www.csgv.org/document.cfm?documentID=285.
The conservative icon, who Guns & Ammo Magazine once referred to as "The Gun Owner's Champion," was instrumental in passing several gun safety laws, including the landmark assault weapons ban and Brady Law. In rebukes to the gun lobby, Ronald Reagan:
Directly lobbied members of the House of Representatives to support the 1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban. The ban passed by only two votes; at least two House members publicly credited Reagan's direct appeals for their "aye" votes.
Personally urged Members of Congress in the early 1990s to pass the Brady Law, a major gun safety initiative vigorously opposed by the gun lobby.
Banned cop-killer bullets, undetectable handguns, and the manufacture and sale of machine guns.
"This report details how, on many occasions, Ronald Reagan put public safety above the extreme interests of the gun lobby," said Joshua Horwitz, Executive Director of the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence. (http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-99023.html)
How can a preacher's wife?
or husband or (to be politically correct) best companion be trusted to speak the truth when they condone our government selling guns to drug cartels and want the same government to take guns away from US citizens?
There are some very twisted liberals commenting on here.
Fish,
Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools remain controversial legal issues. Since the mid-twentieth century, the federal courts have placed limits upon state power to require or even permit these popular cultural practices. Two landmark Supreme Court decisions in the 1960s banned prayer in public school, and subsequent decisions have mostly strengthened the ban. By comparison, the courts generally have held since the 1940s that the Pledge of Allegiance is permissible, provided that it is voluntary. Nonetheless, some individuals have brought lawsuits in the 2000s, arguing that the Pledge violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution because the Pledge contains the phrase “under God.”
P.S. Bubba
I'm sure the family of the MURDERED Border Patrol agent would love to hear your thoughts and those of the minister. The gun that killed him was given to his killer by Obama's Justice Department.
Toilets have to face Mecca
and crosses are banned in some institutions.
Controversial is not the same
Controversial is not the same as illegal or banned.

My grandson still
My grandson still says the pledge of allegiance every morning along with the two Muslim boys in his class. Do not label all people the same, just the same as all guns are not ment for the same purpose. The only thing we do know is not all people can be trusted SUPRISE!!!!
Ahh Fish,
"Two landmark Supreme Court decisions in the 1960s banned prayer in public school, and subsequent decisions have mostly strengthened the ban."
Try reading it next time.
Prayer in public schools
is mainly supported by folks who presume the protection is mainly/only for Christian prayer. Another good piece: http://www.religiondispatches.org/dispatches/antheabutler/6697/guns_and_...
