Guns: A coward’s choice

Posted: December 18, 2012 - 11:00pm

We keep hearing that we are the strongest and best nation in the world. The country that every other one should look up to and model themselves after. Yet, because of the self-serving majority of our Congress that allows themselves to be bought by the National Rifle Association (NRA) with their lobbying and political contributions, we now have to have armed guards not only at our banks, but at our malls, churches, movie theaters, universities and even our elementary schools.

Apparently, they think it is the right of any gun-loving lunatic to own a repeating weapon that can kill dozens of people in a matter of minutes as long as those contributions keep coming in. And the second amendment doesn’t say anything about the right to own a Uzi. They were referring to muskets. It seems we didn’t think the congressional herd enough in the last election.

How many more people have to be murdered before we get some people with a conscience elected?

And I am sick of hearing that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. But guns are a coward’s weapon. You don’t even have to get close to your victims. You can’t kill dozens of people with a brick, frying pan or even a knife without getting close to your victims and probably being overcome by someone.

Julie,

the only cowards that do what you say are a product of your liberal, athiest beliefs. You people murder babies and scream when a messed up kid murders almost-babies. One of the latest shootings was a Muslim terrorist pretending to be a US soldier. You wouldn't want to be shot by a musket either and if you want to go back a few hundred years you wouldn't be able to comment either. How would you like the clock to REALLY turn back to 1791? No woman's right to vote, Black people slaves, and I assure you gays were in the closet. You REALLY want to go there? Every single one of you that use that "musket" baloney need to think about slavery and women's rights and a lot of other things.
If you want me to only have a musket then I want you barefoot, preggers, cooking, cleaning and silent until I tell you to speak!

FLAGSTAFF — A gun-carrying Flagstaff man is being credited with helping stop a bank robbery suspect.

Dave Young was driving up to the Arizona Central Credit Union branch when he saw a friend's son trying to stop a man jumping over a fence.

Young says he quickly confirmed a bank robbery had occurred and took off after the two in his vehicle.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports Young caught up with the pair and placed his hand on his sidearm, showing the suspect that he was armed. He didn't pull his gun.

Young called 911 and police took the suspect into custody.

Young says he's held a concealed carry permit since 1998. In Arizona, gun owners can carry a concealed or exposed weapon without a permit or training.
Darn, another future Democrat caught!

Uzis are already illegal to

Uzis are already illegal to own as are all automatic machine guns. When the constitution was written muskets were considered military grade weapons. They were the most modern firearms available at that time so they knew what they wanted to achieve when writing the 2nd amendment. They did not mention lasers in the constitution either because they are obviously unable to see into the future. My dad grew up in the 30's in northern WI and they would have a day where they would bring their gun from home(Every family had at least one rifle) and an officer from the local police dept. would provide safety training, They would teach them how to aim and shoot properly. You could actually order a machine gun or a semi automatic hand guns from the Sears catalog until the mid 1920's! What has changed is people's attitude towards each other. Back then the idea of going on a shooting rampage was just not even a thought. Now people shoot each other because they were "disrespected" or cut off in traffic or any number of minor reasons. Think about this, If you look at a normal 12 year old, He/She has seen someones head get blown off in glorious color either in a video game or a movie or even on the internet showing real kills from combat areas. So resorting to violence becomes a viable option.

We're too good a country to allow this to continue.

I agree, Julie. These young children and their teachers were hunted down and intentionally killed. This was a senseless waste of life. fnb's rant is completely illogical, and we are too good a country not to do something about the easy availability of assault weapons and/or weapons with huge magazines that make it so easy for boys like Adam to do great harm.

No matter what

No matter what is said society will never face the fact that we are all ignoring what is happening. The crazies are getting attention only when it is to late (media sensation), and the sick (mentally ill) aren't receiving help because we as a society done give a dang about each other until we see what happens on the news. Until we ban togather as a nation and demand better help for ourself and loved one things won't change. From parents knowing what are children are watching on TV or facing the fact that it is not mornal for little (Jack or Jill) to kill his pet or grab a kid on the play ground, these kids grow up. Also the social worker that tells you unless (Jack or Jill) wants help there is nothing that can be done. What if (Jack of Jill) stayed with the social worker for a week or two.I know of one mother that begged for help for an out of control daughter, the mother is now watching two crack babies because mom drove drunk and killed the third baby, and another couple (it doesn't just happen on the reservation it is everywhere).

LOU - I agree with you and

LOU - I agree with you and think there are many causes.
I think there are many parents right now wondering if their
child could do something like this.
Also interesting it seems like the places they choose to
kill are the places that have those signs that there are no
guns allowed in the place. Schools, churches, malls.
Mental health problems need to be addressed.
Violent video games and movies need to be addressed.
Notice that Hollywood has postponed some premieres,
but has been silent. I don't know now that the video games
have been introduced how we would control without imfringing on rights.
MOTLEYLARRY - I can tell by your smart as- remark about Rush that you don't listen to him. Just an easy thing to say,
but not true.

Wow, Julie couldn't be more wrong...

In China, where it's illegal for citizens to have guns, a knife-wielding assassin slashed over twenty children on the very same day the Sandy Hook massacre occurred. Also, the highest body count for a school rampage was in Bath Michigan in 1929, and that slaughter was committed with bombs. Murderers do what murderers do. If you take away one weapon, they'll find another. What makes me sick is how the leftists approach to gun violence is to take away guns from the very people who might be able to stop a lone gunman from killing dozens of people. You know what these recent mass killings all have in common? They are almost always committed in gun free zones. Something to think about.

Do people really feel

Do people really fell that every comment in life is a personal attack on them? Unless you are mentally imbalanced don't take rants as an attack on you, take it that people are tired of bad poop happening , I am saying society in general. I am not ever ranting about any political party or any one person, so lets keep it real! Everyone has to take personal responsibility don't attack another for there thoughts (do you want to be responsible for creating a crazie) , no (Bob) this is not about you.

Interesting comments from that lefty, commie former

Chief Justice, Warren Burger, on the Second Amendment (2A). The 2A hasn't always been twisted to create an obstacle to common sense gun legislation.

"Here's a quick way to see how rapidly things have changed
(regarding interpretation of the 2A). Warren Burger was a conservative Republican, appointed chief justice by President Richard Nixon in 1969. In a speech in 1992, six years after his retirement, Burger declared that "the Second Amendment doesn't guarantee the right to have firearms at all."

In his view, the purpose of the Second Amendment was only "to ensure that the state armies' -- the militia -- would be maintained for the defense of the state."

A year before, Burger went further. On "MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour," Burger said the Second Amendment "has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud -- I repeat the word 'fraud' -- on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen."

Whoa, tell us what you really think, Justice Burger. The entire article is a facinating read. http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentaries/184019231.html?page=all&...

Here's another view of the Chinese school knife attack

Anyone debating gun laws has inevitably run into a pro-gun supporter who, pulling out his trump card, has declared: "Guns don't kill people; people kill people!"
But what happened in China hours before Newtown demonstrates the folly of this pithy argument.

Hours before Newtown, a deranged man in China walked into an elementary school building and begin to indiscriminately attack everyone in his vicinity. Before his rampage ended, twenty-two children had been hit.

But while it sounds like Newtown, there were two crucial differences that share a common root. First, the man used a knife. Second, because the man used a knife, none of the twenty-two children were killed. The common root here is gun control. Effective gun laws prevented the Chinese man from obtaining a gun -- with which he would have doubtless done much more damage." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-shammas/china-knife-attack_b_2307172....

Only 4 of the 22 children he attacked were hospitalized.

Only 4 of the 22 he attacked in that Chinese School were hospitalized. The rest did not receive injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. Lucky for those Chinese school children that the perptrator didn't carry the kind of weapon used at Sandy Hook.

Cowards

Really, Julie. You have written some decent letters to the editor, but this one is your worst.

I have been well trained in the military. I have qualified on multiple weapons. I enjoy having guns, I don't because I don't have space for them. But I can tell you this. Guns are not the only killer. What next, going after archery, throwing knives? In the hands of the wrong person these can be dangerous weapons? I shoot archery now. I'm pretty accurate out to 40+ yards. But guess what, this may be a weapon, but when used properly it is a tool to feed a family. The same can go with guns.

Doctors are killers. There are thousands of abortions every day. Guess what that is a little person.

Oh by the way, maybe we should blame cars for drunk drivers.

Guns

I find it sad to see that so many people get upset about guns. If guns were dangerous I would never go to a gun show. I mean there are thousands of guns, if they were dangerous no one would ever live after a gun show.

A person that is mentally unstable or not sound will make anything into a weapon. This can include paper, paperclips, books, fertilizer, you name it.

Guns are not the issue, people are.

When you take God out of the society in every way, this is what occurs. Part of the reason why people think God doesn't help, is because we as a nation have kicked him out.

The question seems to be:

The question seems to be: Can we make America a safer place for everyone.

One side of the debate is saying "We CAN do that! We CAN at least TRY!

The other side seems to be saying "We CAN'T do that! We CAN'T even TRY!

Who would be the idiot that would let the two of them in the same place? What would be a reason for a loaded Uzi at a gun show anyway? My sons were shooting at that age, but in an intelligent setting.

I think the government has plenty

of other defensive weapons. Is the public going to go against a government armed with planes and drones and bombs? Silly people.

And tbonar, those 26 people were praying for their God to save them. He was there. And the people using these semi-automatics to kill were not searching for food.

Remember the seven year old just injured in Pennsylvania as his dad got into his truck after leaving a gun store and accidentally discharged the gun?

I wonder how many near accidents go unreported?
I doubt if it is required to report such accidents if no one is injured.

Ok let me say this. For the most part God has been kicked out of EVERY part of our society. People, typically, only pray to him when they desperately need him. After they are in the clear, they think God i don't need you anymore. Yes there are exceptions to this, but generally this is the case.

Have you ever wondered how many robberies or rapes are averted by the presence of a firearm?

I will wager that the MSM ignores most of the latter because it doesn't fit their narrative.
