A long winter?

Posted: December 11, 2012 - 10:04pm

Five inches of snow as of 4:30 p.m., Sunday (per the Dispatch).

The city of Baxter snowplow was nowhere to be seen on my street 24-hours since the snow started. Finally, Monday morning (more like 30-plus hours after the snow started) my street was plowed.

And we pay taxes for this kind of (non) service?

It could be a long winter.

Surprise John ! Most snow removal is done after it stops snowing

Especially on weekends.

Cass County certainly does a bang up job of getting their roads cleared and sanded on week day morning very early.

Plowing and sanding resources everywhere have to be deployed using a bit of common sense and cooperation.

MN DOT , the Counties, Cities and Townships around here seem to work very closely together to provide safe roads while constantly adjusting to a moving target.

But if it snows for hours--they USED to plow some early

Just so emergency vehicles, people who still HAVE TO go to work, etc. could maybe have a chance of getting out and about on some roads.

It seems they don't plow a single street anymore until the last flake had fallen, and it affects sales at stores, people's ability to work, and emergency travel.

Also--used to be they had major routes they'd run a plow down on a more frequent basis, so you'd know if you at least could reach them you could maybe get out of your neighborhood for work or emergencies. No more to that, either.
