History reveals that it is not an easy task negotiating a fire protection contract between the city of Brainerd and the Rural Fire Assn. This one is no different. After a year of negotiations, the association did not approve the city’s current proposal.

30 years ago (1982)

Diver Vicki Clifford will be Brainerd’s only entrant in next week’s State Swimming and Diving meet at the Univ. of Minnesota. She finished third in the Section 4 championships at Bemidji State, compiling a career best score of 325.85 points.

40 years ago (1972)

The Brainerd City Council has passed salary increases amounting to $40 a month for department heads and $39 monthly for all others. They also delayed a decision on purchasing 17 voting machines for $36,000. They had been rented for the recent election.

60 years ago (1952)
