Social Security entitlement

Posted: November 18, 2012 - 11:03pm

Pay attention to your next Social Security statement.

Your next Social Security statement will read:” Federal Benefit Payment/Entitlement.”

Never mind that you worked for 30-40-50 years and paid into Social Security — it is now an entitlement.

You are now part of the moocher, leach, sucker class who don’t now, or ever, have worked, but receive “entitlements” : rent assistance, food stamps, extended unemployment, heat assistance, etc.

Welcome to the second term of change we can do without.

Art Becker

INo surprise that Art Becker would write garbage like the above

But it's hard to believe that any reputable newpaper would print it. The Brainerd Dspatch is not in that category.

Many in this area think Art's comment is right-on

Many of us feel Art's comment is right-on. I guess it depends on what side of the fence you're on. Romney was stating what we think when he said Obama got elected by those on the receiving end of the "gifts" those of us that paid taxes paid for.

why

Why is the Dispatch running Art's letter again? Wasn't 30+ remarks enough? You are encouraging him to write more foolishness.
Canderson, go back and read how many thumb downs.

Why can't he say what he wants?

I read this that he is not speaking literally.
I don't know Becker so I don't really know for sure.
WIhat is incorrect in the message?

I thought he still had the right to say what he
wants, I mean, even Becker has that right.
Just because one may disagree with him. oh,
howis he wrong on this?
Just asking.

I thought using e mail forwards was off limits??

the word is plagiarism - using someone elses writing and signing it as your own. Very illegal in most circles.

Not to mention material that does not pass 'fact check.'

Quote of the Week

During this Thanksgiving week, this quote more than qualifies.

"In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican."

Romney's "gifts" gaffe -- over which notable Repub's are equally

chagrinned -- may come back to bite him in the bum. Sour grapes are common after a major loss, and folks say things for which they'd probably like to take a mulligan. It happens. The best of this article's four points (see below), is #3:

3. "On the off-chance this nonsense (about Obama "gifts") still needs rebutting, let's be very clear: There are plenty of reliable Republicans who get heaping piles of government goodies," says Noam Scheiber at The New Republic. Seniors get Medicare, veterans get VA benefits, and corporations "gorge on lavish subsidies" — all with a thumbs-up from Romney. "Believe it or not, there are even wealthy financiers out there who don't pay income taxes on their loot and who deduct the mortgage interest on their vacation homes. (Not that I have anyone specific in mind.)" And don't forget, "Romney himself promised an exceedingly large 'gift' to elderly Republican voters: restoring $718 billion worth of savings from Medicare that Obama had achieved through the Affordable Care Act."

Who is H.L Mencken?

A journalist and American satirist, critic of American life
and culture. His secret diary shows racist leaning for whatever that is worth.

There is much to read on him with so little time.

Art,I believe you are

Art,I believe you are confused. The conservatives are the ones responsible for creating a negative connotation of the word "entitlement." This has not changed since the recent election and has nothing to do with you being a "mooch," etc. You should be proud of your entitlement. It's called retirement for most. By working and paying into social security in the US of A, we are "entitled" to such benefits, unless that is, you want to work the rest of your life and be self sufficient.

Your comments are terrible and nasty and I for one can not imagine why anyone would ever listen to you since you obviously do not know what you are talking about.
You are entitled to your Social Security are you not. I hope that you never need help or assistance of any kind there are many reason people need help . Maybe if wages were better some would not or maybe if they made enough they could pay rent put food on the table . What do you do to help people?

Art Becker just another victim of the Conservative Media

Entertainment complex that now promotes Republicon values with "different" talking points this week from a couple different looking talking heads.( then there is Rush L)

Art , the problem is your cult leaders are talking a little different now , however NOT thinking or acting that way.

Im afraid its too late for the " sensible " conservatives to become sensitive to the actual needs of the nation.

Stand by and watch the GOP led US House of Reps perform their final tea party act , prior to the self destruction of the entire remaining factions of the Republicon Party.

All the while claiming its them thats the problem!!!

Art, someone took your idea!

"SOCIAL SECURITY NOW CALLED ‘FEDERAL BENEFIT PAYMENT’/ENTITLEMENT!

Have you noticed, your Social Security check is now referred to as
a “Federal Benefit Payment" ?"

But here is the whole letter. Better sue them! Plagiarism is against publishing laws.

Scribbles, once again, thank you for your visual insight!!

You add a lovely, poignant dimension to our discussions here. Bravo!! (I'll admit to not always understanding every one of your visual aids, but I love the ones I get!!) Mr. Limbaugh and Mr. Hannity and Mr. O'Reilly and Mr. Beck . . . and on and on . . . they have an entertainment-oriented job to fulfill, and they do it well. Who knows what they actually believe about the issues (aside from their schicht, for which they are handsomely paid). Few would begrudge them their income (paid by advertisers and "dittoheads"), but we don't have to respect how they make their money. Telling the truth has nothing to do with what they do every day. Framing a narrative is what they do, and the narrative is defined by the highest bidder.

Oh Crap...

Hey, You and I both know that people are entitled to the program because of the fact that they EARNED it! But yet you sound like you want to take that benefit AWAY?? Wait a minute, Obviously YOU are one of Obama's followers! Another LOSER in the Christian way of how GOOD - VERSUS - EVIL! EVERYONE has a right to that entitlement because of the fact THAT they contributed to it! It wouldn't be there otherwise! BUT if you didn't contribute to it - YOU have NO CLAIM to IT! Also you sound like a juvenile - You must be under 21... What a LOSER!
