20 years ago (1992)

The Brainerd Warrior girls’ golf team is now among the contenders in the conference race. The Warriors moved into 2nd place after finishing 2nd to Alex at Brainerd Golf Club. Brainerd’s Anne Gustafson, a two-time state entrant, placed 2nd with a 45.

30 years ago (1982)

The assembly area and campground in Pillsbury State Forest was dedicated in honor of District Forester Walt Stark. Presiding was Gov. Al Quie, who spent the day trail riding there, with help from Les Sellnow and brother Ray, part of the trail riding group.

40 years ago (1972)

(Photos) The ice went out of Mille Lacs Lake in a big way Monday night as a mountain of ice rolled into the harbor at Drift Inn Lodge, wrecking the dock and mooring facilities. The south highway along the lake was also blocked by ice until cleared by a tractor.

60 years ago (1952)

With time pressing heavily, Brainerd’s Worm Control committee is forced to take drastic action to spray the city for forest tent caterpillars next week. Chair Paul Cibuzar said they have raised only $3,500 of the $5,000 needed, but will do the best they can with that.

80 years ago (1932)

Sgt. Chester Wise, of the Army Recruiting Service in Minneapolis, will be in Brainerd May 4-5 seeking to enlist ex-service men who would like to re-enlist for service in China. Those who qualify will ship out of San Francisco on May 27 on the steamer “Republic.”

100 years ago (1912)

Southeast Brainerd was agog with excitement last night, for some automobile speeded so swiftly down Oak Street that the policeman couldn’t catch the number as it whirled by. Before he could catch his breath the machine turned and came by again, even faster.
