MERRIFIELD — Frederick L. Blocker, age 87, of Merrifield, passed away on Feb. 11, 2013, at St. Cloud Hospital.
Fred was born on July 10, 1925, in Springfield, Minn., to Leo and Viola (Wiese) Blocker. He is a WWII Army veteran. Fred married Judith A. (Crust) Hansen on Aug. 31, 1967.
He enjoyed his family, music, writing and playing his own songs and the outdoors. His favorite poem was “In My Back Yard.” His favorite song was “The Green Green Grass of Home.”
Fred is preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Geraldine Berry.
Fred will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy; children, Karen (Jerry) Doyle, of Brainerd, Valerie Castle, of Brainerd, Sherlynn (Jerome) Kretzman, of Baxter, Jon Blocker, of Brainerd, David (Mandi) Hansen, of Brainerd, FayRene (Craig) Holtz, of Brainerd, Kathy Jo (Derek) Hendricks, of Brainerd, James (Renee) Blocker, of Merrifield, Melissa (Timothy) Miles, of Merrifield; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Lona (Leon) Johnson, of Stacy, Minn.; nieces, nephew and cousins.
A funeral service celebrating Fred’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at The Church On The Wise Road. Visitation will take place one hour prior to service at the church.
