Eugene R. “Gene” Steward, age 78, of Bloomington, formerly Crosslake, Minn., and Burt, Iowa, passed away Feb. 8, 2013, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Preceded in death by parents, four brothers and two sisters. Survived by: wife of 52 years, Wilma; children, David (Jill), Dwight (Stacey), Neal (Lisa), Paul (Jenny); 12 grandchildren; siblings, Doretta Abbas, Karen Bringman, Roger Steward, Perry Steward, Gary Abbas; many relatives and friends.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War achieving the rank of Petty Class First Officer with four years of service. He went on to earn a [filtered word] in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and then began his 30-year career at UNISYS in Roseville, Minn. During that time he also earned and MBA degree from the University of Minnesota and rose to the level of director of their Large-Scale Computer Development Group.

Service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Hillcrest Methodist Church, Bloomington. Visitation will be one hour prior. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes, Minn.
