Helen C. Deuel, of Brainerd, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1919, daughter of Berger and Julia Olson.
Helen’s love of music and dance kept her very busy with senior dances. She played Cordovox and piano with the bands, hired bands for each week, coordinating all the facets. Many years ago she was the regional supervisor for Sarah Coventry Jewelry home parties. She retired after 20 years as the first woman mail carrier at the Brainerd Post Office.
Helen went to The Barn restaurant most days for breakfast and lunch, visiting with friends. She was very well known and well liked. She was always there for her family to help or support whenever she could.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Lyle; five children, James (Becky) Lease, Deerwood, Patricia (Michael) Walker, Bismarck, Ark., Owen (Susan) Lease, Baxter, Steven (Becky) Deuel, Manitowoc, Wis., Clinton (Kathy) Deuel, Brainerd; one surviving sister, Janice Gustafson, of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Helen is preceded in death by brothers, Eddie, Leonard, Elmer; sisters, Mamie, Beatrice, Emma; son, Loren Lease; and grandaughter, Mardie Steelman.
Services will be Tuesday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Hans Anderson officiating. Lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church.
